William Ray of tho American Ameri-can expeditionary forces, who hud offered of-fered to faco Carpentler for thrco rounds. Before entering tho ring tho American soldier thought things over, and It occurred to him that It would bo a great Joko If ho could knock tho French champion out Ho didn't ay a word to anybody, but when tho bout begun ho watched his chance, and swung with till his might nt tho Frenchman's Jaw. Ho missed, and Carpentler, thinking that tho American had become unduly excited, ex-cited, just let It go at that. But Bay stuck to his purpose, and when another an-other opportunity presented Itself ho caught Carpentler on tho mouth, splitting split-ting both his Hps. That was too much for tho Frenchman. It didn't taltu him long to find an opening, nnd ho landed on tho American sergeant's Jawj-aud the fight was over. |
