Show I! DEATH OF PRESIDENT JOHN R. WINDER. I Sunday Ovoning at 7:30 o'clock, John R. Winder, 1st counselor to President Joseph I P. Smith of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died at his homo,41)North,West I Temple St., Salt Lake City, from the effects of pneumonia, aged 89 years. Concerning his h demise Prest. Joseph F. Smith said: "In the death of John 3?.. Winder I feel a great personal Y loss. He was one of the hest men I ever know, a wonderful man of affairs, a wise counselor and a man of unyielding courage." I TIUHUTE TO rESID?NT WINDElt. I In testimony of their esteem and regard of the late John I?. Winder, Presidents JosoplrF. Smith and Anthon II. Lund yesterday promulgated tho following official announcement;: To the Officers and Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Beloved I' Brethren and Sisters: It is with feelings of sadness and vetrret that we are called upon to anounce to you tho death of President John R. Winder, our fellow-sorvant and associate in the quorum of tho first presidency of tho Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I which took place at his residence, No. 49 North, West Temple street, this city, at 7:30 o'- clock last Sunday evening. i As you know, President Winder was taken down with pneumonia some nine weeks ago, I' during part of which time wo were encouraged in the hope that he was going to get over his I sickness and we be favored with his association again. But Providence haying decreed other- l wise, it remains now for us to bow to tho will of the Lord, and acknowledge His hand in this i' as in all other things. . In the death of President Jolm R. Winder we are not only deprived of the association of a friend nnd brother, not onlvof an associate and fellow-servant in the cause of God our Hoaven- f. ly Father, but wo sustain a personal loss as well, a loss which wo deeply feel and which i none, outside of his immediate family, can so fully appreciate and sense, for ho was an advisor and counselor eminently worthy of his high calling. 'f While we mourn with the family and friends of President Windor, wo also rejoice with 5 them because of the peaceful change and well-earned rest which has now como to our be- loved brother, and the glorious reward awaiting him; and we part, with him in the fond hope I of a jovful reunion in the society of those whom wo all love, and who, too, have labored and I gone before.
