Show 11 Election News I In a Nut-Shell NATIONAL Republicans retain control of the Senate, but the Democrats capture the House. Now York, Now Jersey, Massachusetts and Connecticut go Democretic. Geo Sutherland's ro-election is assured by Utah's vote. STATE Every county in the state goes Republican except (Dixie) Washington county. Howell's majority in the stato is 18,028. The state Senate after Jan. 1, 1911, will bo made up of 15 Republicans Rep-ublicans and 2 Democrats. The Lower House will consist of 38 Republicans and 7 Democrats. Salt Lake City and county wont Republican Americans shut out. COUNTY Box Elder County elects all Republicans except two Milton H Welling (D) for Representative to the Legislature and Brig-ham Brig-ham Wright (D) for County Commissioner 2-year term. Mr. Welling's majority is about 265 and Mr. Wright's majority is about 99. Box Elder is for prohibition, looks like. ilR Election Day In Gar- iEI land. Election day was an unusu- I Wffir ally quiet one for a city the size iJp-$f of Garland. The Republican 113$ "rooters" did considerable! hustling, bnt the Democrats ; laid low. There was 161 votes MjK cast 55 straight Republican, lfc'ip 41 straight Democrat and 65 fffl't'i scratch tickets. The register t5tf"7 showed 311 registered voters,1 tf " but a number of these had j $1 " moved away, others had died ij rf and quite a few wore taken over i M nv tuo new ast Garland pre- 1 lEvV I'.iuct. At least 261 people ought to have voted instead of 161. Therefore about 100 qualified quali-fied voters in the Sunset (Garland) (Gar-land) precinct failed to vote and quite a few of these were women. Had the same enthusiasm enthus-iasm that was manifested at the last municipal election characterized charac-terized this election, no doubt the results would have been somewhat different. The day was a little chilly and perhaps the one hundred who failed to voto preferred to stay at home and toast their shins.
