Major General Wood reports re-ports from Jolo that n sovero action lias taken placo between troops, a contingent con-tingent of tho naval department, the constabulary and a body ot hostllo Moras nt Mount Dajo, near Jolo, opening open-ing on tho nftcrnoon of Mnrch C and ending on tho morning of March 8. It is reported that COO outlaw Moras wera killed In tho crater of tho pro-clpltous pro-clpltous volcano flvo miles from Jolo. Tho Americans lost eighteen killed nnd fifty-two men wounded, Including Captain Rivers of the Fourth cavalry, Lieutenant Agnews of tho Sixth Infantry, Infan-try, Lieutenant Gordon Johnson ot the signal corps, Ensign Cook, commanding command-ing tho Pampangn, and Captain White of tho constabulary. Tho attack was under tho immediate command of Colonel Duncnn of tho Sixth infantry. Tho fighting1 lasted two days among tho lava ridges which had been strongly strong-ly fortified by tho Moras. Artillery had to be hoisted by means of block and tackle up tho last 500 feet at an anglo of CO degrees. General Wood highly commends tho work of tho troops. |
