Tho accident bulletin Issued by Interstate In-terstate commorco commission for tho three montks ended March 31, 1906, shows tho total number of casualties to passengers and employes to bo 18,-296 18,-296 (1,126 killed and 17,170 Injured). This Is nn Increaso of 17 In the number num-ber killed and 52 In tho number Injured In-jured over thoso reported In tho preceding pre-ceding threo months. Tho number of passengers and employes killed In train accidents was 271, as ngalnst 320 In tho preceding three months a decrease of 46 In the number killed. Tho total number of collisions and derailments was 3,100 (1,921 collisions nnd 1,509 derailments), of which 289 collisions nnd 167 derailments affected affect-ed passenger trnlns. The dnmage to cars, engines nnd roadway by theso accidents amounts to $2,924,785. There Is nlso a decrease of 232 lu tho number of collisions nnd derailments over those reported In the preceding tlireo months. Tho number of employes em-ployes killed In coupling nnd uncoui-llng uncoui-llng cars nnd engines was 84, being ono less than the number killed In tho last quarter. In closing tho bulletin says: "Tho most disastrous accident reported In the present bulletin, a collision causing caus-ing 34 donths and Injuring 24, was due to tho striking failure of tho train dispatching dis-patching systom. A telegraph operator oper-ator at a small and lonely station, who had been on duty all day and moro than half tho night, fell asleep, and, on awakening, misinformed tho train dispatcher as to what had oc curred whllo ho was nsleop.
