Show G. W. Miller Severely Scalded. Early Monday morning G. W. Miller, an employee of The Utah Sugar Co., while on shift in taking caro of what Is known as tho Second Carbonators, was severely scalded with hot beet juice Issuing Is-suing forth from tho tallow hold of tho carbonators. The juice Is forced through the carbonators with gas and boiled with steam. Tallow is used to prevent the juice from foaming and is put Into what Is known as the tallow holo, an adjust-Iblc adjust-Iblc holo about 0 Inches square. Heavy pressure is used to force tho juice through the carbonator aud any opening mpdc would naturally be followed by a gush of hot. liquid. Mr. Miller was testing tho juico and went to the tallow hole to adjust it, when suddenly it flew open and threw the hot juice directly in his face. He turned to run and the liquid liqu-id poured' all over his shoulders, sldoand back. The boys near him tore off the clothing from his burned body and carried car-ried him to the labratory. Dr. Francke was summoned ntid did all in his power to relieve his snlTc'ring. Mr. Miller's face, side and back received re-ceived tho full force of the hot juice and his injuries wcro vory severe. Dr. Harding Hard-ing camo up from Hrlgham Monday and assisted Dr. Francko in caring for tho patleut. Threo boys at the Lehi Sugar factory were badly scalded by tho carbonators December 10th. Dr. Francke informed us yesterday that Mr. Miller was on the road to recovery, re-covery, tho swelling from tho scalds rapidly gulag down and tho patient resting rest-ing quietly. |
