Show BE NL OT DE DECEIVED well meaning persons who desire tho the enactment of the southwick lck cigarette bill but who are willing that it should be amended should consider well their position before urging such a course an amendment adri otly attached to a measure can kill all it and there is one amendment proposed tor for this cigarette bill which undoubtedly will prove the death 0 of the measure ceasur should it be accepted and the bill enacted into law we have reference to the proposal to cut from the original bill the clause relating to the prohibition ot of tho the sale of 0 cigarettes in this state it if that were done and the balance of 0 the bill passed there is not the slightest doubt but that the measure would be declared unconstitutional this bill provides lor for three specific things the prohibition ot of the sale of if cigarettes in the state the prohibition ot of advertising of 0 cigarettes in any newspaper new r magazine or upon any billboards within the state and the prohibition hibi tion ot of smoking in all enclosed public places take out the clause prohibiting the sale ot of cigarettes and the prohibition ot of the advertising of cigarettes could not bo be accomplished and it is the advertising that Is aimed at to a very large extent in order that the bonsant suggestion to smoke might be removed from the gaze ot of the young people and this particular amendment me nt la is being urged by those who desire the defeat ot of the measure and for what reason is plainly obvious the bill should be enacted in its original form in order to bring about the results desired and no friend 0 of the measure should stand tor for amendments that will nullity nullify its purpose |
