Show Deputy TJ. S. Marsiial W. K. Henry returned last evening from an extended visit through Uintah county wfaere he has been subpoenaing witnesses wit-nesses and jurors to attend the Nephi term of the First District court. Spanish Fork reveled in military display all da yesterday (Friday), last night and until an early hour this morning. Cavalry Troop B, with an excellent brass band, met the governor gover-nor and hie staff, who arrived on the morning train, at the depot from where the gueots were escorted to the Bovack I hotel. Later companies A, B, C, D, I and M arrived and marched to the city hall, where they were dismissed until 2 o'clock. Governor West and staff, consisting of Adjutant-General John Q Cannon, Colonel Tatlock, Lieutenant Lieuten-ant Lassiter and Lieutenant Elias A. Smith, were then encoited to the hotel, ho-tel, where a bounteous repast was spread in their honor. At 2 o'clock the troop and infantiy companies gathered at the hall and beard a song from one of the crnipany entitled "The Infantry B ys." They then marched to the Urisholm pasture, where the tartet shooting took place. Five men trim each company were selected se-lected lor this practice. The bull's eye was hit but twice by Quartermaster Quarter-master Clamer of the Spanisn Fork troop ana Sergeant J. J'. Feild of Company Com-pany I, ti'ia city. Spanish Fork's picked live carried off the honors of the contest, scoring 65 points. Company B came next with 64 points. Company M of this city scored 57, Company I, 52. Colonel Tatiock inspected the Spanish Fork troops and found uniforms, arms and accoutrements in firstclass condition. condi-tion. At night a grand ball was given in the magnificent new pavilion, It was a crush. Scores upon scores of people from other towns as well as practically all of the good people of Spanish Fork were in attendance, Sperry's quadrille band of Nephi furnished furn-ished the miiBic. The crowds who went from Provo reached home some as early as 2 o'clock this morning, some as late es 4. All report having spent a most exceptionally pleasant day and evening. |
