Show IS IT T HE KOFFORD Who Last Fall Killed Sheriff Burns of Sanpete? IN JAIL AT PUEBLO, COLO. Telegrams Received Prom Officers There Say That Kofford Has B6en Captured The SaDpete Kofford Was Once tn Trouble There. Where are Kofford and Mickel, the elayerB of Sheriff Barns? That is a question that has been asked by people of all classes thousands of times. It has puzzled many, but none more than our yigilant officers who have not for one day since the foul murder was committed lost track of one of the many clues that have been given them, and who have never for one day turned their attention from the.case it has ever been uppermost in their minds no matter what other important import-ant business has been on hand. So much so has this been the case that cart loads of letters touching upon this subject are lying in Chief Fowler's office of-fice received from Sanpete officers and ohers, and he has mailed as many or more letters of inquiry and of answer. Of late letters have been received conveying positive assertions that the young murderers are not far from Sanpete San-pete county and another search for the boys was under contemplation, but today to-day it was concluded that at least for a while preparations for that trip that were about to be inaugurated would be postponed. The cause of the postponement was the receipt of the following telegrau by Chief Fowler from Sheriff Carter at Manti: "Have word from J. O. Glenden-ning. Glenden-ning. Pueblo, Colo,, that he has Kofford Kof-ford in jail." If no mistake has been made in the man Mr. Glendenning's capture will prove to be the most important one that has been in these parts in many a day. Mr. Fowler telegraphed to the Sanpete San-pete sheriff asking what he intended to do and for any further particulars he mav have. The wires between heie and Pueblo are now being used. Developments are awaited with interest. Kofford was once in trouble in Pueblo Pu-eblo and from the tone of the telegrams tele-grams received from there it appears that the officers there are holding" him for that minor offense and know nothing noth-ing of the charge of murder that lies at his door. Glendenning wires asking ask-ing Carter how long Kofford has been in Utah and Carter has answered that he was born in Utah. Of course it is evident Glendennine meant to ask how long it is since Kofford returned re-turned to Utah. In his last telegram he eaidjhe would have to get information informa-tion at once or turn his prieoner loose. Chief Fowler wired Glendenning, telling tel-ling him to hold Kofford by all means. |
