Show DEMOCRATIC OGDEN. Hon. William L. Wilson Enthusiastically Enthusiasti-cally Received. Hon. William L. Wilson, congressman congress-man from the Second West Virginia district, spoke to an immense and enthusiastic en-thusiastic audience in the Grand opera house in Ogden city Monday evening. About 7 o'clock the Ogden " City and Kent's Military bands and the Young American drum corps began to parade the streets and fill the air with delightful delight-ful campaign music, and by S o'clock the opera house was weii null filled. Not any time s'nee the building of the opera house has it been so crowded as it wac last evening. Every seat from the bottom to top was filled and hundreds were turned aw ay for want of standing room. A hu ge -number of ladies were in the audience eager to hear the principles of Democracy ex pounded by a man of national lame. The building was elegantly decorated with the national colors. Shortly after 8 o'clock the curtain rose, and seated on the stage were many prominent Democrats of Ogden and Weber county. Mr. Wilson is Chairman of the Executive Ex-ecutive Committee of Democratic clubs of America, and is stumping the country under the auspices of the Democratic Dem-ocratic clubs. National Democratic Committee and Congressional Democratic Demo-cratic clubs, and last night's gathering was under the management of the Weber County Democracy. Congressman Wdson is" a native of the state he s ably represents in the nation's capital, and is a prominent lawyer of several years' experience. He was president of the University of West Virginia f ir several years. He-cause He-cause of lils popularity among his fellow fel-low men, and his unquestionable ability abil-ity as a scholar, orator, and expounder of Democratic priie iule, he was prevailed pre-vailed upon to accept the nomination for Congress. He was elected by an overwhelming majority.and has served his constituents fhe consecut ive terms in the House of Representatives. One remarkable feature of his public life is the fact that lie has yet to suffer ln's first defeat as a candidate for any office. Mr. Wilson has several times been favorably spoken of as a candidate for Speaker of the house. There are few his equal as a public speaker. His tone of voice is clear and every word he utters touches the deep chords of logic. His subject last evening was entirely upon the tariff which he defined in a j clear and comprehensive manner. -lie j showed the fallacy of such nonsensical taxation, and was loudly cheered at different intervals. |
