May IS, 181)1, with Mayor Booth iu the chair. A communication from Thomas E. Thurman was read, offering to board prisontrs for l"ic. per meal and 30c. prr hour for acting as jailor. Referred to committee on police and city prison. QTiie committee on public grounds reported re-ported as follows: To the City Council of I'rwo City: Gentlemen. Your committee on I public grounds and citv property, to I whom was referred the claim of the I Electric Light Co., have consulted the Superintendent, and he is unwilling to have any reduction in the bill for the month of April, but is willing to furnish the five extra lights without charge as long as the Citv Council deein it proper, to make up for what the. city claims to have lost thnugh bad lights. I n regard to the cleaning of the globes, the gentleman promised to have it attended at-tended to regularly. We respectfully recommend that the Council ask for a continuance of the five extra lights without charge from May 15th t June 1, lbUl. E. C. Your committee on ! cemetery, to whom was referred the petiUou of Mrs. Jane Allman, asking ' for a lot in the cemetery in exchange for one belonging to petitioner, and destroyed by the cemetery drain, report re-port that we have considered the same and recommend that the petition be granted. The Sexton reports to the committee that the petitioner has selected se-lected a vacant half lot. which is satisfactory satis-factory to your committee. R. II. Thomas, Chairman. The report was adopted. The committee on judiciary; to w hom was referred the bill providing for the inspection of buildings and other oth-er structures, reported and offered a substitute bill. On motion of Mr. Dixon, the bill passed its second reading. The. committee on streets and alleys al-leys repoi lt d, recommending that the petition of John I), .boies and others, asking that t he Factory race, on wesi sul f II s-reet, between Second and fourth streets, be 1: moved to the east side of" t.:e street be granted, but that the city do not expend over in making the excavation. Tile report was accepted. Mr. Maiben spoLe of the flume crossing cros-sing 1 street, between the Cosmopolitan Cosmopoli-tan hotel and Mines' drug store. Me stated that rubbish was thrown in the ditch causing a stoppage. Referred to the watermaster with instructions in-structions to take such tteps as is necessary to put a stop to rubbish being be-ing thrown into the ditch. Mr. Maiiien mo.ed that the question ques-tion of the pound keeper's tialary be considered. Carried. Mr. Maiben then moved that the salary be fixed at $15 a month, instead of $ 10. The gentleman stated that as the officer had to give $2,000 bonds he thought it would be perfectly right that he be allowed a reasonable saUry. The motion prevailed. Mr. Maiben thought it was a great expense to flume the street crossing, and he therefore moved that no more boxes be put in unless ordered by the Councilor committee on streets and ; alleys. The motion was carried. Mr. Ileurichsen wanted to know if the services of James White as policeman police-man had been dispensed with. He was answered in the affirmative. Mr. Ileurichsen also spoke of the Steam Laundry, and asked if anything had been done iu regard to preventing them from emptying their slops in the ditch on E street. Mr. Glazier stated that the committee commit-tee on quarantine had been to see the proprietors, but could not find them. One of the committee had been ap- j pointed to wait on the proprietors and ; state that the Council tlesired them to dig two cess pools to empty their slops into. !
