Show THE liLOOKY SHIRT. And so, according to the Enquirer of last evening, we are to have red Republicanism Re-publicanism flaunted in the parade today. to-day. "The Republican drum corps! will be out in costume on July 4th," j ourrepublican friend says. We supposed this was to be a day when politics were to be suppressed while Americanism held sway. L the parade to-day was to bea political politi-cal exhibition it should have been so announced, that all parties might have had an equal show. As it is, it would appear that the Republicans (or a few 'i them at least) are going to take snap ! judgment on the Democrats, Liberals and other parties, and get their woik in while they have m i audience. To carry the idea out fully, i our partisan friend should have sug-! gested that the orator, and other speak- i usaiuie lancrnacle, were going to picture in oratorical colors the beauties of a high tariff and a strong central government. It might not be in keep-big keep-big with custom, nor consistent with ; Irtie patriotism and a sense of propriety, hut consistency is not one of the vir--f t ues of our evening friend; and besides j the party it represents might not 1 i aide to get such a gathering again dur- nig the whole of the campaign. Rut seriously, we don't believe the thoughtful men of either party want to Jing polhicsinto the celebration to-day, and we hoj.e it will not be done. vtehave understood for some days past that a martial band was in active practice for the celebration and that it was composed of members of both parties, par-ties, and last night was the first intimation intima-tion we had that there w as any silent partisan work on hand.
