The festivities begin Friday morning with the annual visit of Santa Claus. This year Santa will be visiting the children at Gunnison City Hall starting at 11 a.m. The Lions Club will be sponsoring the visit and will have refreshments for all who attend. The Businessmen Association will donate the treats for the children. Santa will be collecting Christmas lists from the children and will do his best to answer all the letters. Please enclose a selfaddressed stamped envelope so Santa can be sure to know where to send his replies. Following Santa's visit there will be a matinee at the Casino Star Theatre. The show is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the seventh in the series of the Harry Potter movies. Last week Harry Potter was the #1 film in the nation. All seats for the matinee will be just $4. On Saturday Gunnison will hold its first ever Christmas light parade. This should prove to be a fun family event that will grow into an annual tradition. The parade will start at 7 p.m. at Gunnison Park and will go down Main Street and end at the parking lot of Fieldstone Academy (the old elementary school). The parade route is long so that people can sit in their cars, if they wish, to watch it. There will be a big bon fire at the end of the parade route with doughnuts and hot chocolate. Everyone is invited. Many local businesses will be holding big sales starting on Friday. Some of these businesses include Valley Builders, Gunnison Implement Co., Ace Hardware, Valley Furniture, The Copy Station, Gunnison Market, Timeless Traditions, Jensen Drug, White Hills Trading Co., and others. Local businesses and the Gunnison High School football team will be selling Gunnison Business Cards. These cards are $20 each and feature discounts at many lo- cal businesses. The discounts offered with these cards can save you hundreds of dollars. The proceeds from the cards go to the Businessmen Association, who are using the profits to pay for the new Christmas trees on Main Street that the elementary students will be decorating each year. The proceeds will also help keep their current programs going such as the candy during Santa's visit. Come out and participate in the activities this weekend and help kick off a great Christmas season. Holiday concert at the Food drive Casino Star Theatre With the winter holidays upon us and festive lights ablaze, the Casino Star Theatre is pleased to present Lark & Spur in an Excellence in the Community Concert of traditional and modern carols. The program will be on Friday, December 3, at 7:00 p.m. Lark & Spur began as a duo in 1984 when Jeff Whiteley on acoustic guitar, and Lori Decker, vocals and mandolin, performed in the streets, metro tunnels and public squares of Paris, Munich and other European cities. Over the years, Lark & Spur added other musicians and now performs as a quintet with one nylon string acoustic guitar, one steel string acoustic guitar, mandolin, bass, voices and various woodwinds. The group performs internationally at jazz festivals, events for the Utah Symphony, and innumer- THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE ar en me an/mon "a ey azette able public and private events. Students at Gunnison Valley Middle School have been participating in the annual food drive for the Sanpete County Food Bank. Each fall, just before Thanksgiving, the three grades at the school have a competition to see who can collect the most food. As of Tuesday, the 7th grade was leading with over 250 items.
