Show Sports The Gunnison Valley Gazette Page 8 Thursday, November 25, 2010 Storm postpones season opener by MITCH PETERSON include games against American Leadership Academy and a pre-Christmas classic against county rivals Manti, as well as contests with fellow 2A teams like Rowland Hall, Millard, Beaver, and Maeser Prep. League play starts in January. The Bulldogs will battle for the Region 15 title against North Sevier (Salina), South Sevier (Monroe), San Juan (Blanding), and Grand County (Moab). Regions 13 and 14 also compete at the 2A level. Beaver, Cross Creek (La Verkin), The 2010-11 Gunnison Valley High School girls basketball team roster is set and the players are ready for some game action- if the weather will cooperate. The Lady Bulldogs were supposed to open the season at home this past Tuesday, November 23rd, against the Waterford Ravens, but the game was postponed due to the incoming blizzard. So now the first game of the year is in Kamas against South Summit on Tuesday, November 30th, with the home opener against Parowan on Thursday, December 2nd. The game against Waterford will be re-scheduled. Jordan Stewart is back for his second year as head coach, and he's assisted once again by Mindy Coates and Kami Goble. The Lady Bulldogs will feature a young team with just one senior and three juniors, but the sophomore and freshman players are ready to contribute their talents to the cause. Senior Amberlynn Stratton, along with juniors Sara Brown and Dakota Stratton, are team captains. The Bulldogs will play a twenty game schedule with good tests at home and on the road. They'll host Piute on December 7th, then they'll head to a two day tournament in Kanab on Friday and Saturday, December 10th and 11th. Other preseason highlights Enterprise, Kanab, Millard (Fillmore), and Parowan make up Region 13, while Region 14 consists of Layton Christian, Measer Prep (Lindon), North Summit (Coalville), Rockwell (Eagle Mt.), Rowland Hall (Salt Lake City), South Summit (Kamas), and Waterford (Sandy). The Beaver Beavers are the defending 2A state champions, and they start the 2010-11 season ranked #1 overall in 2A, according to the Deseret News pre-season poll. Enterprise is #2, South Sevier #3; Kanab #4; and North Summit #5.
