These two tools will be invaluable to the city employees as well as to residents. Dr. Ernest Larson presented plans for a new dental clinic at 62 East Center Street. The council was in approval as long as the necessary off street parking spaces were provided. Council Member Nay has been working diligently on the Sanpitch River Walkway. At the bid opening in May, the bids came in higher than the engineer's estimate. She has petitioned UDOT for additional funding so the project can be completed as designed. UDOT will make a decision on June 14th. The council will review that decision as well as the total project at their June 21st so the bid can be awarded or rejected. Kim Pickett, a member of the Gunnison Valley Hospital Board, presented a list of services that the hospital provides as well as statistics of the number of services provided so far this fiscal year. The Hospital Board is considering adding representatives who reside outside of the Special Service District boundaries to the board. The council agreed input would be valuable from those representatives but urged him to relay their desire to have the hospital board establish an advisory board or community council board. That type of board would vote on policy and not financial or taxation issues. Those residents living within the Special Service District are liable for either the financial burdens or successes if the hospital is sold or suffers a loss. Those residents who use the facility but reside outside of the Special Service District boundaries are not liable for anything.
