The team is 1-1 in the tournament, having defeating Snow Canyon 8-6 in game one on Saturday morning and falling to Spanish Fork 7-6 after eight innings on Saturday afternoon at the Spanish Fork Sports Complex. Snow Canyon, the Region 9 No. 3, scored twice against Park City (Region 11 No. 2) in the opening inning. The Miners turned the tables on the Warriors in the second inning, keeping them scoreless while bringing four Miners home to go up 4-2. The third and fourth innings were scoreless. “Our players were looking forward to this game,” coach Dave Feasler wrote via email to The Park Record. Snow Canyon had ended Park City’s 2017 and 2018 seasons. Snow Canyon broke the scoring drought with three runs in the fifth, and Park City fired right back with four of their own in the bottom of the inning. Feasler said junior Zack Blaszak hit a single in the fifth to put the Miners ahead, then Connor Heiden, who came in as a pinch hitter, bunted, and Snow Canyon bungled the play. Senior Evan Pointer then batted both home with a triple, and the Miners took an 8-5 lead. Pointer then relieved senior Ben Agnew on the mound, and held off Snow Canyon through the next inning. A seventh-inning run from the Warriors couldn’t bring them out of Park City’s shadow, and the Miners won 8-6. “This was a huge win for the program; beating the team that has knocked us out the previous Continued from B-2 Softball season Scoreboard Division 3A Winners Bracket Results – May 9 Richfield 8, Union 0 Summit Academy 12, Manti 0 One-Loss Bracket Baseball Juab 12, Morgan 2 San Juan 10, South Sevier 6 Playoffs Carbon 5, Emery 1 Judge Memorial 6, Grantsville Division 4A First Round Results – May 11 3 Juab 15, San Juan 3 Park City 8, Snow Canyon 6 Carbon 6, Judge Memorial 0 Summary not available High School Sports Lehi 2, Green Canyon 0 Salem Hills 4, Bear River 2 Desert Hills 4, Tooele 1 Spanish Fork 3, Ridgeline 2 Juan Diego 3, Cedar 2 Orem 4, Mountain Crest 1 Dixie 10, Stansbury 4 Second Round Results – May 11 Spanish Fork 7, Park City 6 (8 inn.) Not long after the Snow Canyon game, the Miners took the field against Spanish Fork, who had beaten Ridgeline 3-2 that morning. Like in their earlier game, the Miners went down two runs in the first inning, with the Dons’ top pitcher, senior Cy Nielson, keeping the Miners’ bats quiet. Park City junior pitcher Ryan Jeffrey helped keep Spanish Fork subdued. The Dons were scoreless in the second inning, but earned a single run in the third. Agnew and Blaszak both hit in the fourth inning to score four runs for the Miners and earn a 4-3 lead. The Dons regained the lead through two runs in the fifth. The Miners answered with two runs of their own in the sixth, courtesy of sophomore designated hitter Ryan Hunt. The Dons earned a point in the bottom of the inning to tie the game, and came away with the W after a single run in the bottom of the eighth. “Spanish Fork is consistently one of the best programs in the state, and it was a tough game to lose,” Feasler said. “But, we are proud of how our players competed all day.” The Miners play Region 12 No. 2 Bear River at 11 a.m. on May 15 at Roy High School. The winner of that game will play at 4:30 p.m. on Lindquist Field in Ogden later that day.
