They lost to Region 9 No. 1 Cedar 15-0 on Saturday morning, and to Region 10 No. 3 Lehi 13-3 in the consolation bracket later that day. However, this was the farthest the team had gotten in years. Coach Shannon Gebbia said the Miners put up a better fight than the scorelines showed, and that the Miners only struck out twice against Cedar over the game. “They just made plays,” she said of the Redmen. “Their second baseman made a diving grab to throw out our runner at information on upcoming activities, go to deervalley.com or call 435-649-1000. The Miners’ afternoon game against Lehi was the last for a generation of players who had built the team up from a consistent losing record to a season at close to .500, and had made the playoffs for the first time since 2011. It was also Gebbia’s last game with the Miners. She will focus on finishing her bachelor’s degree in history at the University of Utah, where she will seek a volunteer position with the university’s softball program. The team and Gebbia’s last game together got off to a rough start. The Miners went down 8-0 to the Pioneers before scoring three runs in the top of the fourth inning. Lehi answered with four more in the bottom of the inning. After a scoreless fifth for the Miners, Lehi scored one final run, bringing the score to 13-3. Senior Diana Boyce, who joined the team this season, pitched for the entirety of both games. “She pitched well,” Gebbia said. “We would hit the outside corner and they would base hit Weather Temperatures: WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY SATURDAY SUNDAY Warm with times of clouds and sun A t-storm in spots in the p.m.; cooler Mostly cloudy with a few showers; chilly Mainly cloudy, showers around; chilly Mostly cloudy; cool with showers around Winds: SSW 8-16 mph Winds: S 10-20 mph Winds: SW 6-12 mph Winds: W 6-12 mph Winds: S 7-14 mph 72°/51° 67°/36° 45°/35° 49°/36° 51°/36° High for the week ................................ 72° Low for the week ................................. 31° Precipitation: Total for the week ............................. 0.61” ACCUWEATHER UV INDEX TM Ogden 81/61 Elko 79/49 Salt Lake City 84/64 SUN AND MOON Sunrise 6:09 a.m. ......... 6:09 a.m. ......... 6:08 a.m. ......... 6:07 a.m. ......... 6:06 a.m. ......... Instead of opting to ride home with parents who had come down to see the games, the Miners re-boarded their bus and drove back to Park City, where they could still make prom. “They could have asked to go home with their parents so they could get back sooner, and that right there shows you what a true team is,” Gebbia said. “They chose to get back on the bus together, and it was a party. They brought the microphone and a speaker and had karaoke on the way back. It was insane.” The team will lose most of its starting lineup, with seven seniors graduating this year. “I can’t say enough about the seniors,” Gebbia said, mentioning that Annie Sheinberg, Amanda Riely, Vanessa Heredia and Tiana Clevenger have been with the team all four years, and played an important role in developing the Miners. “They are the heart and soul of the team, along with juniors City Aspen Boulder Butte Colorado Springs Elko Ely Evanston Flagstaff Gallup Grand Canyon Grand Junction Gunnison Idaho Falls Jackson Hole Mesquite Missoula Ogden Page Pocatello Provo Pueblo Reno Rexburg St. George Salt Lake City Spokane Sun Valley Tahoe Twin Falls Yellowstone Wednesday Hi Lo W 72 46 pc 82 56 pc 66 46 t 80 54 pc 79 49 pc 73 41 pc 70 48 pc 71 43 s 78 45 pc 74 43 pc 83 56 s 71 39 s 76 49 pc 70 41 pc 93 61 pc 69 51 c 81 61 pc 86 63 s 78 51 pc 80 56 pc 89 54 pc 65 47 c 75 52 pc 89 62 pc 84 64 c 68 53 c 69 48 c 53 36 pc 76 51 c 60 36 pc Thursday Hi Lo W 71 42 s 81 54 s 66 45 c 82 54 s 61 34 t 58 27 t 67 36 pc 63 34 pc 77 45 pc 66 32 pc 83 53 pc 72 40 s 73 42 pc 68 39 pc 79 48 t 67 48 sh 74 44 pc 82 50 pc 74 43 pc 76 44 pc 91 55 s 58 40 sh 72 44 pc 76 47 pc 77 46 pc 67 49 sh 64 41 sh 44 27 sn 67 41 sh 57 33 pc Interstate 80: The interstate will be dry Wednesday.
