Show B20 Castle Valley Review, March 2009 TRIBUTES Hollie Sillitoe HELPER- G. Hollie Sillitoe died February 26, 2009 in Carbon County, his home for all of his 80 years. Hollie was born in Castle Gate on November 28, 1928 to George Edgar and Ethel Henderson Sillitoe. His father was killed in a mining accident when he was four years old. He was raised by his mother and step-father Joe Tullius. Married Sylvia Dalpiaz April 27, 1957 in Helper. In his youth he was a proud member of the 1943 Utah State American Legion Championship Baseball Team. He was affiliated with the family newspaper business, served as a Ray H.J. Leonard “Papa Ray” PRICE - Our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, Ray Leonard, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, from complications following surgery. Ray was born on March 17, 1926, to Eunice Allred and Irving Leonard in Price, Utah. He grew up with six sisters who adored and pampered him. He attended schools in Carbon County. He enlisted in the Army during World War II at the age of 17. He was always proud to have served his country. Ray married Nadine Collier, together they had four children –Lana, Pat, Teri, and Jim. Later divorced. He married Donna Bolotas, later divorced. Together they had one child, Vicki. Ray Helper City Policeman, and ended his working years as a car man on the Utah Railway. As a member of the 1946 Class of Carbon High School he served as the class reunion chairman for over 33 years, and self appointed class historian. Hollie has gone to always had a special place for Donna’s children; he loved Donna’s children as his own. Ray worked in the coal mines at Wattis and Hiawatha. He also worked for the Utah State Road Dept. He was a member of UMWA and the American Legion. He is survived by his children; Lana (Kenn) Kofford, Pat (Charlotte) Leonard, Teri (Tom) McElprang, Jim (Debbi) Shenk, Vicki Spear, step children; Christine (Terry) Shaw, George Anne Cardwell, Stephanie (Dave) Karcich, Alexis (Randy) Gruniger, Debbie (Allen) Staker, Arty (Terri) Bolotas, and their families, 12 grandchildren, 26 greatgrandchildren, sisters; Melba Shaw, June Bell, Jean (Myron) Dodge, Monty Basso, Bonnie (Ron) Murray and many join “the gang”, family members, and important friends. Survived by his wife, Sylvia; daughters, Trisha (Taber) Grange; Tracy (Tim) Hammack; brother, Nemo Butch (Roseanne) Tullius; granddaughters, Hollie Grange; Taylor and Torie Hammack; many nieces and nephews; and special “daughter” Nicolle Jacobs. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother in law, Marge (Jim) Dervoe; nephew, Joey Tullius. Hollie wished to be cremated and at his request there will be no services. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price. nieces and nephews. He will be missed. A special thanks to his friends and associates at the Price Senior Citizens Center. Preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and four brother-in-laws. Funeral services were February 28, 2009 at the Price LDS 3rd Ward Chapel (303 West 500 South). Interment was in the Price City Cemetery. Services were in the care of Fausett Mortuary. Worley-Jensen Monument Price • 45 W 100 N • 637-4400 Violet LaRene Bradshaw Olsen PRICE - Violet LaRene Bradshaw Olsen age 81, passed away February 16, 2009. She was born June 21, 1927 in Royal, Utah to Fredrick Nevan and Ruth (Woodward) Bradshaw. Violet loved to crochet; she crocheted a doll for all her daughters and granddaughters. Her true joy was being with her family. She enjoyed camping, ATV’s, and the outdoors, she loved to dance, and hear her six children sing. She is survived by her children; Don (DD) Olsen of Mt. Pleasant, TN, Bonnie (Patrick) McBrayer of Eagle, ID, Larry (Sherri) Olsen of Lake Tapps, WA, Denise (Kenneth) Thayn of Wellington, UT, Dennis Olsen of Preston, ID, Rick Olsen of Wellington, UT, 23 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by Delbert L. Olsen, her parents, brother; Donald Bradshaw and sister; Leah Tansue. Funeral services Thurston L. Bittick SUNNYSIDE-Thurston L. Bittick, age 84, passed away February 22, 2009 in Price while surrounded by his family. He was born January 17, 1925 in Newark, Arkansas to Walker E. and Clara Roberts Bittick. Married Charlotte May, September 11, 1946 in Reno, Nevada. Thurston’s top priority was his family. He was a kind and sharing man to his friends, animals and strangers. He enjoyed gardening, reading, and camping. He was a resident of Sunnyside since 1951 and a dedicated employee of Kaiser Steel. Thurston loved working and he was always using various remedies to improve his health and well-being. He was an active member of the United Mine Workers of America. Survived by his Dorothy Ellen (Hastings) Ross GREEN RIVER - Our beloved Dorothy returned home to her Father In Heaven, her loving husband and faithful family on February 15, 2009 at 3:30 a.m. She was a blessing to her family for 97 wonderful years. She was loved and cared for by the wonderful nurses and CNA’s at the Ferron Nursing Center when she left her earthly home. Her funeral service was at the LDS church in Green River on February 21, 2009. Interment was in the Elgin Cemetery. Dorothy was born in Green River, on June 6, 1911 to Effie and Howard Hastings. She had four siblings that she loved dearly especially her little brother Tommy(Vera)Hastings. She met her high school sweetheart when she was playing basketball & *Authorized Dealer* were February 20, 2009 at the Price LDS Stake Center. Internment was in the Price City Cemetery. Services were in the care of Fausett Mortuary. wife, Charlotte Bittick, Sunnyside; daughter, Linda (Douglas) Johnstun, Price; son, Danny (Jodi) Bittick, Medford, OR; grandchildren, Jodie Scartezina, Edward (Lindsay) Scartezina, Jason Bittick, Christopher Bittick, Tracy Stevenson, BJ (Tia) Johnstun; greatgrandchildren, Alexa, Isabella, Olivia, and Xander. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Eythel Davis, and brother, Jolly Bittick. Graveside service was February 26, 2009, at Cliffview Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home. for Green River. She soon realized that John Franklin Ross was the love of her life and married him on December 22, 1930. Dorothy and Frank had three sons and one daughter who were cherished by their mother. Arnold Jack (deceased) and Jackie, Jon Kent & Georgia, Howard Clark & Gene and Dorothy Ann Carter. She left a posterity of 25 Grandchildren, 68 Great Grandchildren, and 49 Great Great Grandchildren. Grandma Ross was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary.
