Show A6 • WEDNESDAY, MARCH 3, 2010 Sentinel Guardian of Your Community News ^ UVCC to hold March fireside Chamber news Riley Lewis STAFF WRITER At 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, the Utah Valley Children's Choir will be performing in a fireside for the Spanish Fork East Stake. All are invited. It will be held in the LDS church at 870 East Canyon Rd, Spanish Fork. The 180-member group is based in Spanish Fork, with Suanne Bowcut and Ryan Eggett as directors. The choir holds firesides to share uplifting music with the world. The concert choir is made up of members ages 8-18, and brings together the top voices from 400 children participating in the Utah Valley Children's Choir music education program. u This is an excellent opportunity for members of the community to get acquainted with the choir," said Carl Bowcut. Red Hat Club visits assisted living center Salem's Splendid in Salem Red Hat Club visited the Latter-Days Assisted Living Center in Santaquin on Wednesday, Feb. 17,2010 for a Red Hat Tea Party. Each of the women in the Salem Club were dressed in their full regalia, complete with their red hats. They each donated a plain red hat and craft supplies so the residents could select and decorate their own red hat. Once each of the residents made their selections, they supervised the decorating of their new hat. They were thrilled when each of their hats were finished and ready to wear. I love the people here in our community and have grown so much from their influence. I am passionate about making our city the best it can be, not only by beautifying our community, but by helping our citizens feel the best they can." Kaylee Cloward is the daughter of David and Susan Cloward and a student at Maple Mountain High School. Her platform is "Stranger Danger and Basic Self-Defense for Kids." She will be demonstrating her skills in Taekwondo with a bo staff. Kaylee said, "I have lived in Spanish Fork my whole life, and not a day goes by that my love for this town doesn't grow.... Because of my roots that connect me to this town, I feel committed to serve and help strengthen the values that I have been so blessed to have been surrounded by." Breanna Beck is the daughter of Chris and Stacy Beck. She is a student at Spanish Fork High School. Breanna's platform is "Child Abuse " S h e will sing "Gravity." According to Breanna, "I have loved living in this city and would not have wanted to grow up anywhere else.... I want to share ideas and to improve where we live. I look forward to working with, and meeting people throughout the community." Candace Wride is the daughter of Dennis and Kathy Wride. She is a senior at Spanish Fork High School who is promoting a platform of "Developing Self-Esteem." Candace do a piano performance of "Whitewater Chopped Sticks," by Calvin Jones. She said, "I have spent 18 years of memories and experiences here and would love to use this opportunity to share my talents, to give back to my community." Kamille Bird is the daughter of Chadley and Lisa Bird. This Spanish Fork High School senior's platform is "Awareness and Prevention of Suicide." This Spanish Fork High School senior is promoting a platform of "L.O.V.E. Our Children." She will perform "Moonlight" on the harp. According to Ashlee, "I have been taught and raised by this community; now it is my turn to give back by serving as Miss Spanish Fork." Samantha Raleigh is the daughter of Chris and Pam Raleigh and a senior at Maple Mountain High School. Her platform is "Advocacy for those with Special Needs." She will do a piano solo of "The Storm." Samantha said, "The chance to be Miss Spanish Fork would be such a gratifying opportunity to have a voice in a cause for which I have a great love, and for the opportunity to better serve the excellent people of this great city." Christie Cerenzie is the daughter of Cyndi and Larry Cerenzie. She is a senior at Spanish Fork High School. Christie's platform is "Internet, Computer and Texting Safety." She will do a dance/gymnastics routine to "Rock Your Soul." Christie said, "Living here really feels like you're a part of a community and I love that sense of involvement and togetherness. ... According to Kamille, "I feel that I can give back to Spanish Fork by creating more involvement in our city ... [I can] make a difference in our community. I can be that example and can promote involvement wherever our city needs support." Jenny Bradford is the daughter of Lynn and Cindy Bradford and a junior at Spanish Fork High School. Her platform is "Bringing Literacy to Life." She will perform the monologue, "Brothers." Jenny said, "I was raised in Spanish Fork and I love the people and the town. ... I think this is a good community that has high values and 1 would like to represent them." Sydney Fryer is the daughter of Russell and Tara Fryer. She is attending Spanish Fork High School. Sydney's platform is "Promoting Community Service." She will perform "Millionaire's Hoedown" on the violin. Sydney said, "Ever since I was a little girl, I have enjoyed participating in the many recreational and civic programs that Spanish Fork provides. ... As Miss Spanish Fork, I would be able to give back to the people of our community who have helped me throughout my life." Peterson, was killed in a plane crash. In 2006, she married David R. Simpson, and acquired three more children. Simp- son said her family "has always been, and continues to be, my greatest support." Simpson said she is still interested in nursing, and she has been attending school off and on to finish her nursing degree. She has also acquired many other skills in the course of her career, including HazMat training and Landing Zone training for helicopters responding to accidents. In addition, Simpson serves as the treasurer for the Utah Association of Emergency Medical Technicians. • . * |
