Christmas brother brings inspiration Chad Vest STAFF WRITER I have very many fond memories of this wonderful holiday season. One of the best Christmas experiences my family and I shared happened on Dec. 15,1979 and the individual involved has been an inspiration to us all ever since. After my mother gave birth to my baby brother earlier that day, my father drove home to pick me up along with my other two siblings to see our mother and baby brother at Payson's Mountain View Hospital. A couple of months earlier, I vividly recall one day being in the car with all of my family. They picked me up from preschool and we all racked our brains for potential names for our newest addition to the family. Being five years old, I had a little friend in my class and I just loved to say his name. So I popped out the name Wade several times for a boy's selection £ and my parents took a liking to it. Before we packed in the family car for a visit to MV Hospital, I quickly grabbed my baby picture and took it with me to see if theje was any sort of resemblance. Fortunately for his sake, there wasn't much. After that visit, we returned with my dad a couple days later to bring home our mother and her precious Christmas gift, our baby brother, Wade. The most exciting thing was seeing my mom leaving Mountain View with her newborn child dressed in a Christmas stocking. What a memorable sight that was! During his adolescent years, my brother was small for his age, but it didn't stop him from wanting to play with the big boys. One day while in the middle of a backyard tackle football game between neighborhood friends, a little tow-headed boy sat anxiously under the patio in his number 34 Walter Payton jersey. He wanted to play so badly but most of the boys were at least seven years older in age and were three times his size. Seeing his determination to get on the field, we did a little improvising. All of the older boys decided to get on their knees to try and tackle number 34. I can still remember the laughs we all had because it was so hard to get a hand on the little guy as he ran around us. In fact, my older brother and his friend even gave Wade the nickname "Wader Paylon" for his exciting play that day. He played backyard football with us from then on. Since that time, my little brother has inspired me with the desire and persistence to accomplish big goals even when others doubted him. Although that's a great attribute to possess and one 1 hope to obtain, what impresses me even more is his humility and love for his friends and family. fh ?ry Christmas... •<!
