She has 6 brothers and 2 sisters. Joy wrote the following about her interests: "Ok, I know it sounds weird, but I really just like learning in general. If it is in the classroom or not, there is so much that you can learn in the world. As for my favorite class, I don't really have a favorite. To me all subjects interrelate, and it is practically impossible to dominate in one subject without being developed in another. The real question is why I am so curious. Truth be told, it is because I love to communicate, and express myself. Most people think that this means that I only like subjects like English, Writing^ px Drama, but communicatibri is such a broader*'idea:1 Science, and even mathematics communicate hypotheses and philosophies internationally. Subjects like history and government can share messages trapped in time. Overall I find all of my classes interesting (most days) and think that because all of them interrelate creating a web of shared ideas." Joy has received many different awards and recognitions including her Venturing Silver Award and he Gold Award. She placed in Foreign Exempt at Regional Debate last year and qualified for state. At FBLA regional competition she placed second and got to participate at the state level. She also placed third at FCCLA Speech. She is also proud of receiving her Young Womanhood Recognition award. About her goals, Joy said, "Goals are the reasons that I do all of these odd things. Just like most average High School Seniors all that is on my mind is college, getting in, paying for it, and so on. I have some odd goals too! Like I want to learn how to ride a motorcycle, and once I can ride it I want to buy my very own. One. day I want to have a paper folding party, run in a marathon, and I want to visit a specific tea house in China. Other goals that I have include getting married and sealed for time and all eternity in a Letter Day Saints Temple, owning my own car, paying off my own house, writing a novel, getting a Bachelors degree, visiting every continent, and serving in a third world country orphanage." Joy is involved in the Tennis team, is President of National Honor Society, Vice President of Key Club, and Vice President of FCCLA. She is also a member of FBLA, in on the ShakeSee STUDENTS• B6 |
