Junior Cami Robinson started for the Dons and held the Vikings scoreless in the top of the first inning. It appeared as though Spanish Fork would jump out to an early lead in the bottom of the first as lead off hitter Tina Ferguson and Ashley Chappel both reached base, courtesy of two Pleasant Grove fielding errors. Pleasant Grove regrouped however to retire the next three Spanish Fork batters, stranding runners at second and third. Robinson continued to confuse the Viking batters in the top of the second, retiring them in order. In the bottom of the second, it appeared that the Pleasant Grove pitcher was also starting to get into a groove as she retired thefirsttwo Spanish Fork batters bringing junior Kylie Button to the plate. Bufton quickly changed the scoreless game with a single swing as she sent a pitch over the center field fence. The solo home run started what would result in a five run, two out rally for the Lady Dons. Spanish Fork picked up three more runs in the bottom of the third on a home run by Whitney Holm stretching Chad Carter / Spanish Fork News PLAYING CATCH: Catcher Tina Ferguson has been solid for the Dons both at and behind the plate. their lead to 8-0. Pleasant Grove mounted a comeback in the top of the fourth, loading the bases with no outs. The Vikings, however, were only able to push two runs across the plate before Robinson and the Dons closed the door. The eight Spanish Fork runs were more than enough for Robinson as she held the Vikings to just two runs on four hits to pick up the win. The Lady Dons, however, added three runs in the fifth, and three more in the sixth just for insurance. The three runs in the sixth inning came off the bat of junior Kylie Brinkerhoff, who picked up her first home run of the season. The balanced Spanish Fork line up picked up 17 hits in six innings including three hits by both Ferguson and Katelyn Elliott on their way to the 14-2 victory. Softball devours Timberwolves • • • ?•-!•' • - : T.-. Brent Thurgood STAFF WRITER The Lady Dons fastpitch softball team reached the midpoint of their region schedule as they hosted the Timberwolves of Timpanogos High School. The Timberwolves entered the game with an overall record of 9-5 and a 1-2 region record while the Lady Dons record remained spotless at 15-0, 4-0 in region IV. The temperatures during the game hovered around 40 degrees, something the Lady Dons have become accustomed to this spring. Except for Spanish Fork's trip to St. George the majority of the Lady Dons' games have been played in temperatures more consistent with football rather than softball. However, the cold temperatures do not seem to affect the Spanish Fork bats. Spanish Fork wasted no time putting runs on the score board after Spanish Fork starter Deven Baum held Timpanogos scoreless in the top of the first. Thefirstfive Spanish Fork batters picked up hits on their way to a six run first inning. The big blows in the first inning came off the bats of junior Katelyn Elliott, who picked up two RBIs on a double to left center and senior Whitney Holm, who Andrew Wilson / Spanish Fork News FAST-PITCH: Deven Baum pitched five innings against the T-wolves, allowing only three runs. launched a two-run home run over the left field fence. Spanish Fork picked up a single run in the bottom of the second to take a 7-0 lead into the top of the third. The seven run lead was nearly cut in half following a single, walk and three-run home run off Spanish Fork's pitcher Deven Baum. In the bottom of the third, Spanish Fork continued to display an ability to respond when scored upon. The three Timpanogos runs seemed to awaken the Spanish Fork line up as they proceeded to pick up five hits and score six runs including singles by seniors Aly Tingey, Lindsee Thurgood, freshman Lyndsey Healey and a double by junior Tina Ferguson. Baum picked up the win for the Dons, pitching five innings, and allowing three runs on four hits. The Dons followed up their 17hit performance Tuesday against Pleasant Grove with 14 hits in the 17-3 five-inning victory over the Timberwolves. Spanish Fork was led offensively by Katelyn Elliott, who picked up 5 RBIs on two hits and scored three runs, as well as Tina Ferguson, who scored three times and had two hits in three plate appearances. SAM'S PREP Of THE WEEK Baseball Player Profile Brock Duke Junior ' Baseball • Pitcher Brock Duke has been dynamite on the mound for the Dons this season.
