"They said, 'Hey, would you like to be the mascot?'" said Austin. Austin's outgoing personality and involvement with extracurricular activities makes him a great representative of Spanish Fork High School and the community. Students were reminded of the inverted pyramid and "using who, what, why, where, and when in order to give the reader critical information .at the beginning. Objective reporting through both the use of appropriate pronouns and absence of editorializing is an important element of effective news writing. Quotes are a must in order to give substance to the writing. Another important tip was the transitions that need to be written into the article in order to keep the article coherent for the reader. The length of the article is also important to adequately address the subject, but not too long to bore the reader. Christene Choate said, "They made it really interesting and fun. It made me think that I might want to do that some day. I learned a lot about writing — stuff that I can use in any type of writing." The time and effort Hardman and Bills put into the presentation is much appreciated. The students are now ready to drive onto the highway of writing newspaper articles.
