Show ports WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2007 • B1 Covering what matters most Can you D Dons win 14th straight Region title The Spanish Fork golf team won the region championship at Fox Hollow Golf Course on Thursday, Sept. 20. This is the 14th consecutive year that the golf team has won the region title, dating back to the fall of 1994. The Don golfers won by a whopping 92 strokes over second place Timpanogos. Garrett Moss took the individual crown for the second straight year. Brady Hughes was in fourth place as an individual and Kris Cook ended up seventh. The golf team will compete at State on Oct. 1-2 at Soldier Hollow Golf Course. Golf team wins at Cedar Hills Garrett Moss again led the Spanish Fork Golf Team to another win in Region 4 golf. Garrett shot an even par 72 over the windy and narrow fairways of Cedar Hills Golf Course. Alex Harris of PG, Garrett Fotu of LP, Josh Haslem of Timp. And Matt Hemple shot 78 and tied for second place. Brady Hughes, Trevor Nielsen of SF, Joe Parkinson of LP were the only other players to break 80, shooting 79s. Spanish Fork has a lead of 90 strokes and will win the region title with Garrett Moss winning the medallist honors. Lone Peak's defense provided formidable obstacles for the Dons last Friday. Dons struggle at Lone Peak Chad Vest STAFF WRITER The Dons football team took their three-game winning streak on the road and were put to the test. Despite the fact that it was Lone Peak's homecoming game, the red and gray battled for four quarters and gave itself an opportunity to pull off the win. With less than two minutes remaining, and a yard shy of a first down, Breck Lewis was stuffed on two consecutive QB sneaks inside the red zone. The next play resulted in a penalty, See FOOTBALL • B2 The SFHS cross country teams competed at the Bulldog Invitational in Provo on Sept. 15, 2007. Senior Kirsten Sly won the girls varsity race at 19.47.30. Sonja Ponis finished fourth with a time of 20.37.83., leading the Lady Dons to a second place finish. The boys team finished fourth at the Bulldog Invitational, behind a strong performance by Vallan Sherrod, who came in eighth overall with a time of 17.29.00 On Friday, Sept. 21, Spanish Fork hosted the Nebo Invitational. The great weather lent itself to good times on the course at Spanish Fork Junior High. Sly and Ponis again led the girls varsity team. Sly finished with a time of 18:36, and Ponis finished at 19:07. The Lady Dons again finished second in overall team standings.
