The •Mighty Dons' fourth quarter •magic ended when Lewis' ;pass fell incomplete, which ^allowed Lone Peak to run ;out the clock. ; The Knights1 game plan ;was successful. They used a ;strong running game coupled Iwith a smothering defense to Ichew up the clock and leave ISF's versatile offense on ithe sideline for most of the knight. In the end, it turned 'out to be a defensive slugfest •and the Dons suffered their •first region loss by the score Jof 13-9. ; Spanish Fork dropped a ;Knight at his own eight yard;line on the opening kickoff. ;But Lone Peak accepted the Ichallenge, traveling 92 yards Ion successful runs, which resulted in a touchdown. HThe Knights went up 7-0, 'running seven minutes off •the clock in the meantime. A first quarter highlight •occurred when Lewis •found Richard Wilson on a •pass play. The big receiver ;lost the ball after being ;h'it by a Knight defender, fortunately for him, Matt Gardner was waiting in the ;wing. Gardner snagged the ball after it was jarred loose Tor an 18-yard gain. '. Penalties plagued SF's bffense in the first half, and Lone Peak scored again right before the break. The Don defense made a stand, but a ;field goal gave the Knights •a 13-0 lead heading into the •locker room. Spanish Fork received the opening kickoff to begin the second half. But a big hit by a Knight forced a fumble and Lone Peak recovered on the SF 20 yard-line. This turnover led to another field goal, which put the Knights up 16-0. Spanish Fork began to sustain a sevenplay drive, but any hope for a score was lost when Lewis threw a ball that resulted in an interception. However, the never-saydie Dons worked hard for their first score early in the fourth. Lewis and company marched 55 yards until hitting a stumbling block. Pinned with a fourth and 12, Lewis launched the ball toward his big tight end. But the ball sailed over Wilson's head and ricocheted off of a Knight's face mask. The pigskin traveled 20 feet in the air before falling into the waiting hands of Dallin Naulu, who waltzed into the end zone to cut the lead in half. Spanish Fork had one final chance after Clay Playmaker Kerecman snagged an interception at midfield. But the magic had vanished and the Dons came out on the short end in this one. SF's linebackers enjoyed a performance nothing less than stellar. Coltan Tomlinson, Kyle Weight and Nate Binks each recorded seven solo tackles on the night while D-lineman Brock Wilson finished with five of his own.
