Show I -NEWS- A8 • WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27, 2007 Spanish Fork Covering what matters most Iceland Days: From ICELAND • A l of 44 other books, including the LDS hymn, "Lord, I would follow Thee" and a famous biography of Brigham Young. Many of the Icelandic descendants love her book and what it represents. One man once said to her, "You've captured the spirit of our people." Following her words, there were a series of workshops, which included weaving and spinning Icelandic wool, by Carol Miller; making Icelandic pancakes, by Lil Shepherd and Vina Foster; doing Icelandic family history with Bliss Anderson, Brent Haymond and Rick Mathews; and using the 2-CD set of Icelandic history, created by the Icelandic Association in 2005, by David Ashby. There was a lot to learn and gain from these workshops and presentation. All who were there seemed loved Kirsten Reimschiissel / Spanish Fork News celebrating their Icelandic heritage to honor and remember those who came before. NEVER SEEN AN ICELANDIC SHEEP BEFORE? The sheep were a main attraction, for children as well as animals. Saturday's program of events began at 10 a.m. and ended around 4 p.m. at the Library park. Chairman Tyler Shepherd and Ed Anderson started the day off with a welcome and were followed by a flag raising by American Legion Post 68. Tammy Hutchings performed the national anthem. Throughout the day there were many booths and tables, including: registration and membership, done by Krege Christensen; a genealogy booth of pictures and memorabilia; food, including the Icelandic pancakes and a lamb dinner; a display table; a table for purchasing gifts; demonstrations of weaving and spinning wool by Carol Miller, including a pen set up to see Icelandic sheep. Those who signed up for membership or registration received a chance to be in the door prize drawing where Icelandic merchandise was given.-There were also two bus tours of Iceland historical sites in Spanish Fork guided by John K. Johnson. A program went from 1-3 p.m. To start off, the presentation of Icelandic honorees were awarded by John K. Johnson. The honorees were Richard Johnson and Bruce Hall. A short tribute was given for each by a member of their family There were also two country bands that performed, which were Greg Downey and the Destiny Band and Mud Fork with JD Shepherd. There was also a children's choir, accompanied and directed by Rhea Jean Hancock, that sang traditional Iceland songs.
