Their gentle words struck a chord with me, and I did just as they suggested. I tried out. 1 auditioned in Center Stage at the Student Center and sang my heart out to a video camera on Jan. 27. The judges couldn't be there, so I was told to sing to the lens, and then they'd get back to me in a few days. A few days went by and I heard nothing. When my roommates asked about if I'd heard anything. 1 shook my head, "There must have been some really good singers." Being great roommates, they still insisted that I would get in. I had come to grips that I didn't make it when I received this e-mail: "Thanks to all those who tried out; here's the list of those who made it." I opened the attachment and held my breath. I was on the list! Days passed by too quickly as I tried hard to memorize songs and get together as many friends as I could to see the show. Before I knew it, it was Feb. 6, practice night. Practice night was more nerve-racking than the actual performance. The men in charge asked me what I was wearing for my numbers and my answer, "Clothes," just wasn't quite enough. (They wanted specific colors for cues.) Then we had to remember specific places to stand and prepare. Hearing the other amazing singers made me feel pretty unsure of everything, and that's when practice was over. Feb. 7, 2007, UV IDOL: I woke up with the feeling of butterflies partying in my stomach, and those little bugs rocked out the rest of the evening. All of my friends were coming (some even came down from Ogden), my boyfriend, and some great guys that I met while participating in "Hold On To Your PS3" were planning on being there. I was so happy they were coming, but the pressure was on; 1 had to give it my all, not only for myself, but also for them. My turn to sing out came almost instantly, and nervously I walked out. I smiled, hearing my friends and roommates cheer, (of course, my biggest smile came from the familiar shout from my. boyfriend) and then the music started. I was happy when the lights were on because then I couldn't see anyone and that helped stop the shaking untilBAM! My number was over. I didn't win it, bul 1 sure had a blast. All of I he performers did incredibly well, and if you didn't go, you missed out on hearing voices like Megan Hoyt (the winner), Jcnna Pineager, and Conn. Now, Conn was a crooner thai no one can forget. He made every girl swoon in that audience. Brandon Karratti, an audience member and friend of mine said, "Man, when he started singing, the girls went wild and guys were jealous." All in all, it was a great experience, and I do plan on trying again next year. I highly recommend it to anyone who can carry a tune. After all, you can't see anyone in the dare of the lights. You'll be line. Photo credit/Jamie Teerlink Top, Songwriter Dave Eaton on his Afaraxy album cover Above, |
