Her leaders convinced her that if she were to speak out about these acts, nobody would believe her. They had convinced her that they had ultimate control over her. Swift would finish her tour and silently suffer. Swift returned home and suffered from posttraumatic stress disorder but still insisted on refusing to talk to anyone in the military about what had happened. She didn't want to file a report on her leaders because "she didn't want to feel like a traitor," Rich indicated. Swift was called to another tour of duty after 11 months and she was packed and ready to go. As she was getting ready to walk out the door to leave, she froze D and realized that she could not do it. She went AWOL and didn't report for duty. She was eventually arrested and ordered to serve jail time in a military prison. In addition, she was stripped of all her rank. Rich tours around the country speaking out about the tragic events that happened to her daughter. It is her hope that she can bring to light these events in order to prevent others from having to suffer. "It is very real and we need to find a way to stop it," Rich stated. Rich's speech was a sobering reminder that war is not always about the good guy versus the bad guy. War is about people. It's about mothers, daughters, fathers and sons. It was a reminder that people fighting these wars are not just soldiers, . DlOCJCjGr they're humans. Humans which are being put in harm's way. In the afternoon, a panel of women discussed some of the good things that happen to women in the military. Cecily Light, a retired Army Nurse Corps Lt. Col.; Leslie Watson, a former Army combat medic Sgt.; and Trish Whitus, a former Utah Air National Guard TSgt. joined Rich in the panel. They talked about the benefits that they have enjoyed while serving their country. They covered a number of topics such as recruiting, educational advantages and health coverage. One thing they all agreed upon was the camaraderie and the team building skills that they acquired.
