It was then that Pierre Thomas and Sylvester Allison scored 10 points between them to set the stage for Troyer's game-tying free throws. "The character of our team was great tonight," said the Wolverine's 4th year coach. "We had to fight back twice when we could have given up. Now we need to find a way to bring that intensity to the duration of the ball game." In the first half, the Wolverines weren't able to get into the rhythm of their offense because of a tightened Maverick's defensive attack and were down five at the intermission. UVSC took their only lead of the second half at 43-42. but the division II Mavericks started pulling away again and never re-lost their lead. Allison finished with a teamhigh 12 points and two steals. Thomas had nine points, seven of those coming in the last 53 seconds as he made four free throws and a huge three point shot that pulled UVSC within two in the waning minute. '"I thought that we played a lot of this game not with the energy that we have to play with," Hunsaker said. "There's a lot of tough games ahead of us and things don't always go your way." 813 were in attendance to see the thriller, and over the final two minutes, the Wolverine student body and supporters were on their feet in hopes of the come from behind win. "What a great student body we have," Hunsaker said. "It was as good as we've had, other than a game or two since I've been here. I feel real bad we didn't pull out a victory. Late though we gave them some excitement and energy. " With two tough games coming up next week in the Guardians Classic at the University of Iowa, Hunsaker will look for more players to step up and take control. "We're turning role players into leaders on this team." said Hunsaker. "Who has the courage to step up and make key baskets and do a good job defensively." The Wolverines play on Monday at 4:00, and then again on Tuesday against either host Iowa or Maryland-Eastern Shore. UVSC returns home for their home opener on Nov. 19 to take on Texas State at 7:00. before 11/14: $399 . , _ | ^ & » l ! A f t e r 11/14: $499 '; .
