PROUD OF JOB Clayton said the FAA is proud of the Job being done by controllers at both the Salt Lake Center and the tower. We grant tnat work all controllers do is stress-typ- e activity, but we do not feel this has reached any sort of danger point in the Salt Lake area, he said. Barren Land Blossoms Around Pelican Lake ; Ey ROGER PUSEY Deseret News Staff Writer AVALON, Uintah County iMany years ago farmers who ;owned land around Pelican .Lake near Avalon abandoned lit because of the difficulty in getting water from the lake 'for irrigation. This year, through efforts of the Ouray Park Irrigation Co., 500 acres of land around the lake are producing a crop for the first time in many .years and 1,000 acres are receiving supplemental water. In 1967 the Soil Conserva-lto- n Service (SCS; designed a small release structure at the lake that allows water to be relea.'tfll in an o'fclerly fashion or pumped onto surrounding lands. Harold Dudley, Richard Dooley and Willard Wall, irrigation company director, explained their irrigation system to John Bradshaw, assistant SCS state conservationist. They said the water enters Pelican Lake through an irrigation system from the White-rock- s and Uintah rivers. The company recently enlarged some canals for more efficient use of the w-t- er. The lake is a natural one with a capacity 'of 17,000 acre-feof water. A channel had to be dug to let the water out and the release structure was built in the channel to et control the water. In 1953 the lake was stocked with bass and bluegill fish by the Randlett Lions Club as a project and today the lake is coming into its own as a mecca for bass fishermen. The Utah Fish and Game Division paid $80,090 for the conservation pool of 6,000 acre-fee- t of water in the lake and the irrigation company used the money to improve the canal system according to the directors. They said the division plans to build three recreation sites in the future and a boat launching ramp which should attract fishermen and recreationists to the area and stimulate the economy. foam latex pillow Alencon vinyl lace Amazing pincore foam latex pillow that breathes stays cool and comfortable in the hottest weather. too.
