"This is not the picture I got from my office in the Pentagon," Stapp said at the ceremony as 338th Fighter Wing F-16s rumbled in the background. "Seeing these jets fly by with the mountains as a backdrop is incredible." Stapp grew up in Laramie, Wyo., and was a state champion gymnast who also competed at the University of Wyoming. "I have been to this area, but it was back in college when I was doing gymnastics," he said. "It's good to be back, though. My kids are just now realizing that they are in the military. After seven years in one place, 'Hilltop' ,•••• they almost forgot." Stapp is taking over command of the wing from Col. Scott Jansson, who will serve as vice commander to Maj. Gen. Andrew Busch at the Ogden Air Logistics Center. "Normally when you have a change of command, you are losing somebody," Busch said, "but this is a win-win for us." Stapp arrived at Hill only four days ago, but said he and his family have already been overwhelmed by the outpouring of hospitality from the base and Top of Utah residents. "From the first day we arrived, people have been great," he said. "We already have to hit the gym regularly because people have been bringing us so much food." Stapp said his top priority as new commander is the continuing support of the armed forces through quality sustainment of the Air Force's current weapons systems. as Grandma's Country Kitchen Aw Catering and Take & Bake Ccisserolcs ":.i:-:.' The key to writing an effective bullet statement is to first collect the facts, then structure the bullet for accuracy, brevity and specificity. While collecting the facts, isolate one specific action the person performed, but do not generalize the act. Track down information to explain how the accomplishment impacted the bigger picture. (For example, how did it help the work. center? How did it support the unit's mission? How did it benefit the entire Air Force?) There are two elements to building the structure: the accomplishment element and the impact element. The accomplishment element should always begin with an action and only focus on one single accomplishment. The impact element part of the bullet statement explains how the person's actions have had a resultant effect on the organization. The impact element can show varying levels of influence, such as the person's actions connected to significant improvements to a work center's mission, an entire unit mission or as broad as the entire Air Force. Every bullet must be-accurate and correct. Avoid exaggerating the facts. You have a limited space to convey your message, so brevity is important. When editing for brevity, use the shortest, clearest, yet most descriptive words to the reader, and reduce the number of unnecessary words. Another concern is specificity. Convey the facts in detail; resist the urge to estimate or generalize. Instead, use exact numbers or dollar amounts. Over time writing accomplishment-impact bullets will become almost second nature to you. For more information you can consult the Tongue and Quill (AFI33-337). Also be sure to seek instruction from your supervisors, first sergeants and chiefs. The next time you're hit with a bullet statement tasking (who knows ... maybe tomorrow) you'll be prepared, fully armed and eager to accomplish the task.
