She met her husband Harold Rigby Capener at Utah State. They were married in 1942, immediately after which Harold left to serve as an officer in the Marine Corps in the Guadal Canal and Guam campaigns of WWII. During this time Karrol finished her degree and taught Home Economics in Cedar City. Following the war, Karrol and Harold were at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York while he received his Ph-D. They have had a storied life together and have traveled extensively to such places as Europe, Pakistan, and Egypt. They took a foreign assignment to the Punjab State in India for five and one-half years on a project to build a new agricultural university, and a two-year assignment to Liberia in West Africa, where Karrol taught English in a rural development institute. In 1964 Harold returned to Cornell University as a full professor and they lived in Ithaca until his retirement. During this time, Karrol served as a ward Relief Society president and as a counselor in the stake Relief Society presidency. While Harold served as a district and stake president for twelve years, she graciously hosted a number of visiting General Authorities in her home during that time. She was a superb chef and hostess, and was admired for her creative talents in many areas, especially sewing. She was an accomplished seamstress and made many beautiful clothes for herself, her daughter, and later for her grandchildren. Following Harold’s retirement, they acquired their new home in Eden, Utah in the Ogden Valley. There, Karrol served again in the Relief Society as both a counselor and as president. While in Eden, she further developed her talent as an artist and completed seven outstanding scenic murals that are treasured by her family and which adorn and warm their homes. Karrol suffered a major stroke in 1991 and her declining health was the result of a series of subsequent mini-strokes. She is now thankfully enfolded in the presence of her loved ones in Heaven, including her infant daughter Chari who died at birth.
