Letters to the Editor Don’t Let Eden Fall Victim to Hooper’s Fate After a good old country town becomes incorporated, I am amazed how expediently developers and growth pushers take command. Oh, how nice it would have been if all the horses I have trained would have learned to submit to control as quickly as Hooper politicians were “broke” to be lead by developers! This mindless expansion and neverending development of environment and wanton elimination of agricultural land and open space may eventually eliminate us as well. I hope our friends in the beautiful little town of Eden are not caught up in this incorporation nonsense. Ed Venstra, Hooper Scout Thanks Community for Their Support I would just like to thank everyone who donated money to my Eagle Project! It was a great success because of all of you. I was able to raise over $4,000 dollars. This money was used to buy shoes for 236 orphaned, abandoned, or at-risk children. These children all live in Cuenca, Ecuador or in smaller towns that surround Cuenca. In addition, we were able to buy two new area rugs, some much-needed medicine, and some physical therapy items for an orphanage for children with disabilities. I had lots of help from my family and from the other volunteers who were there with us, so we wrapped all the shoes and delivered them to each child during the week before Christmas. The looks on the children’s faces when they were given a present to open were incredible. Thank-you for helping me to make a difference in the lives of these children! Jordan Rhodes, Liberty Editor’s View Valley Residents Encouraged to Support Ogden Valley Medical Clinic For many, many years, Valley residents discussed how great it would be to have a medical clinic in Ogden Valley. Today, that dream is a reality, but it has been a stop and go endeavor. Over five years ago, IHC opened a clinic in the Valley. Due to the lack of support by the community, the medical facility lost its funding and its doors were shut. Even with this poor track record, a year and a half ago, in August of 2002, the Ogden Clinic decided to take a chance on Valley residents by reopening the clinic. Though activity has been generally sparse, the clinic recently extended their office hours, hoping to entice even more customers to utilize the facility with the more convenient hours. Within the last six months, I have made three different visits to the clinic. I was able to get right in to see a doctor—Valley resident Dr. Renee West. I was impressed with the quality of care and personalized treatment I received. In general, doctors downtown are becoming more and more difficult to be seen immediately; unless you are on your last breath, it may take several days before the doctor has an opening. Once I do obtain an appointment to see a doctor, I usually have to sit in an impersonal waiting room from 15 minutes up to as much as 45 or 50 minutes. When ushered into an examining room, I often have to wait for an additional 15 or even 20 minutes before the doctor finally arrives. What should be a quick in-and-out visit becomes a time-consuming affair, often taking up half of my day between the commute up and down the canyon and the time wasted in a waiting and examining room. Fortunately, visits to the clinic in Eden are a very punctual affair, with very little, if any, time wasted waiting to see the doctor. If you have not yet taken the opportunity to utilize the medical facility in Eden, I strongly encourage you to do so next time you or a family member needs to be seen by a licensed physician. I, for one, am grateful that we have the luxury of a competent physician and a modern medical clinic located in the Valley, and would hate to lose this asset a second time. There is not another major medical provider in the state to step in again if we lose this facility one more time due to lack of support by Valley residents. This is it folks, please step up to the plate. Let’s ensure that we can receive quality medical attention in our own neighborhood for routine examinations and, more importantly, for those emergencies that may critically need immediate attention. The Ogden Valley Clinic is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To make an appointment, call the clinic at 745-3574. Walk-in patients are also welcome. The clinic is located in the rear of the Eats of Eden Plaza. Medical staff includes Dr. Renee West, M.D. and Elizabeth Anderson, PA-C. Residents Encouraged to Attend Caucus Meetings This year’s Republican caucus, or mass meeting, will be held Tuesday, March 23. It is imperative that Valley residents take part in this critical aspect of the democratic process. Weber County residents will be voting this year for a new County Commissioner. Current Commissioner Glen Burton has announced that he is retiring and will not be running for reelection. If more than one republican candidate runs for the office of Weber County Commissioner, the candidates will have to square off at the Weber County Republican Convention. Delegates selected at caucus meetings will represent county residents at the convention by selecting the candidate(s) whose name(s) will appear on the official ballot that will eventually go before the voters. Let’s ensure that we have proper repre- Inspirational Thought sentation through appropriate public participation at our mass meetings so we can elect a candidate from Ogden Valley as our newest County Commissioner. Watch for information in the StandardExaminer regarding when and where your neighborhood mass (caucus) meeting will be held, or call the Weber County Clerk’s office for this information.
