Show Page 8 THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Volume IX Issue I October 15, 2003 First Annual Ogden Valley Triathlon Wins in All Categories Over 180 participants joined together in some chilly water and beautiful scenery to compete in the First Annual Performance West Ogden Valley Triathlon and Taste of Ogden Valley. Athletes from California, Washington, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, and as far as Virginia Kim Reid and Curtiss Jolley co-owners of PerformanceWest Physical Therapy. came to compete, overcoming adversities from weight loss to death in the family, broken bones, surgeries, and fears to participate in this year’s inaugural event. The triathlon brought people from all walks of life, engineers, nurses, homemakers, real estate agents, teachers, scientists, and more. ing, and running. This USA Triathlon sanctioned event consisted of both a Sprint Triathlon - .75k swim/20k bike/5k run, and an Olympic Triathlon – 1.5k swim/40k bike, and 10k run, taking place simultaneously. Lisa Karam of Extraordinary Events by Lisa put the events together. This event was a fundraiser for the Ogden Valley Business Association, with a portion of the proceeds going to Huntsville Park. The event began on Friday evening with a “carbo-loading” dinner hosted by The Yukon Grill and The Rendezvous Lodge in downtown Huntsville. Race participants had the opportunity to load up on carbohydrates while being entertained by the local band Shades of Grey. At 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, event participants were staged in Huntsville Park and then transported to Cemetery Point to commence the swimming portion of the race in Pineview Reservoir. Athletes then jumped on their bicycles for a scenic ride through Ogden Valley. Bicycles were then dropped off in the park, and the athletes began the last leg of the event with a run through the town of Huntsville, continuing east towards the Monastery, and back. While athletes participated in the Triathlon, their support team and locals enjoyed music by Brenn Hill and Shades of Grey, and sampled Triathlon: Mark Bates of Bates Timber Design, Lee and Chris Chessler of Wolf Creek Resort, LeighAnn Fincher of Wolf Creek Resort, Pamela Mitchell of Website by Design, Nancy Seraphin of Wolf Creek Resort, and Cozanne Schmidt of Cozy’s Salon. PerformanceWest Physical Therapy was the presenting sponsor of the First Annual Ogden Valley Triathlon. The Ogden Valley Business Association and TriUtah came together to bring the First Annual Ogden Valley Triathlon to Ogden Valley on Saturday, September 20, 2003. Triathlon is a multi-sport event consisting of swimming, bik- featured menu items by local restaurants: Gray Cliff Lodge, The Hungry Wolf at Wolf Creek, Alpine Pizza, and Yukon Grille. The following Ogden Valley Business Association member athletes participated in the Jeannie Wendell; Bonnie and Jeff Hyde of Trappers Village/Rendezvous Lodge; and Earl Cherry of Yukon Grill, Event volunteers included Walt Fuller of St. Barthelemy Press, Anita Oliveri of Valley Lodging and Vacations, Jim Ormsbee of Ormsbee Consulting, Larry Walker of Camp RV Land, Wes Welch of Atomic Chalet, Kris Wilkerson of Wilkerson Fine Art, and Cory Wright of Heritage Financial Group. The awards ceremony for the Triathlon took place at Huntsville Park.
