Show Page 6 The Ogden Valley news Volume XXIV Issue VI April 1, 2017 Announcements Weddings Cheryl Jean Winter Holmes Paxman Walker H a n n a h Marie Paxman and Jaden McKay Walker were united in marriage March 25, 2017 in Liberty, UT. A reception was held in their honor that evening. The bride is the daughter of Scott and Jared and Hannah Walker Karli Paxman of North Ogden. Parents of the bridegroom are Ross and Kelly Walker of Liberty. She graduated from Weber High School and works in North Ogden. He graduated from Weber High School and is enlisted in the Army National Guard. The new couple will live in North Ogden. September 6, 1932 ~ March 9, 2017 Robert and Kathleen Whimpey Morrell – Whimpey Kathleen Gayle Morrell and Robert Jaydan Whimpey will be united in marriage March 31, 2017 in the Ogden LDS Temple. The bride is the daughter of Shelley Morrell of Eden and Alan Morrell, who is living in Ethiopia. Parents of the bridegroom are Kim and Jay Whimpey of Farr West. Kathleen grew up in Eden and served in the Texas San Antonio LDS Mission, and Robert served in the Texas Houston East Mission. The new couple will live in North Ogden. Obituaries Orson Bodily April 6, 1933 ~ March 14, 2017 Orson Bodily passed away at his home March 14, 2017, at the age of 83, after a short battle with cancer and renal failure. Orson was born April 6, 1933 at the family home in Fairview, Idaho. He was the youngest of 11 children of George Clarence and Florence Lois Orchard Bodily. He was raised on the family’s 80-acre farm in Fairview and attended Fairview Elementary and graduated from Preston High School. He moved to the Ogden area in 1951. Orson served in the U.S. Army overseas from 1953 to 1955. He worked for Ogden Ford for a short time; then at Hill Air Force Base, where he worked for 35 years as a production management specialist, retiring in 1987. Shortly after hiring on at HAFB, he met his future wife, Marlene Pack, who joined his carpool. They became engaged prior to his entering the military and were married May 27, 1955 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, one month after he was released from the U.S. Army. Together they raised three daughters. Orson was a member of the Church of Obituaries Jesus Christ of Latter-day-saints and held several positions including ward Athletic Director, softball coach, Young Men’s President, Elder Quorum presidency member and Ward Clerk. He loved and enjoyed his family, working in his yard, country western music, sports and traveling. Coin and stamp collecting were also some of his passions. He is survived by his daughters Terri (Deon) McFarland of West Weber, Sue Ann (Steve) Jones of West Jordan, and Janis (Kevin) McGill of Huntsville, Utah. Orson has 12 grandchildren: Justin (Niari), Stacie (Byran), Clint (Bobbie), Mitzi (Neil), Ty (Lacey), Kristin, Rye (Jessica), Kylee (Tremaine), Cole, Katie (Ryan), Karly, and Breanne (Ben). He also has 16 great-grandchildren: Porter, Ruby, Ashley, Linsey, Alissa, Brynlie, Boston, McKay, Benson, Adelaide, Case, Hinckliy. McCormick, Samson, Beck, and Bob. He is also survived by one sister, Waldene McDermott, of Syracuse and many nieces and nephews. He is proceed in death by his parents; six brothers, George, Sylvan, Asa, Donald, Eldred and Theon; three sisters, Una, Lois, and Leola; and his wife of 61 years, Marlene. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 S. 1900 W., Roy, Utah with Bishop Michael Litster of the Sandridge Ward officiating. Interment in the Washington Heights Memorial Park, Ogden, Utah. Send condolences to the family at <www. myers-mortuary.com> Cheryl Holmes died of natural causes early Thursday morning, March 9, 2017, before “first light.” She was born the Cheryl Holmes fourth daughter of Peter and Mabel Winter of Huntsville, Utah September 6, 1932. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and a member of the Durfee Camp, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was the secretary at Valley School for many Richard E. Myers October 7, 1932 ~ March 8, 2017 Our beloved Patriarch, Richard Elmer Myers, a man of wisdom, service, and faith, returned with honor to his heavenly Richard Meyers reward March 8, 2017 after complications from pneumonia and Alzheimer disease. He was born October 7, 1932 in Ogden, Utah, a son of Elmer Holmes and Roseann Patterson Myers. He was raised during the great depression, which helped him to learn the value of hard work, family, and thrift. Richard graduated from Ogden High School, Weber State College, and the Los Angeles College of Mortuary Science as the valedictorian. He married his eternal sweetheart Gloria Ann Jorgensen December 20, 1952 in the Saint George LDS Temple. Their marriage was blessed with three children—Greg, Shaun, and Teri. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a dedicated and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He leaves his posterity with a legacy of sacrifice, love of God, family values, trust, and unity. Richard was a man of vision, integrity, and untiring service to others. He was an optimistic, happy, and outgoing person who was a friend to everyone. He loved to teach, tell a great story or a humorous antidote and he especially loved to laugh and share a smile. He had a wonderful attribute and gift to mentor, encourage, and inspire others to be the very best they could be. He loved to nurture people and help them to realize their potential, develop their talents, and realize their divine nature and infinite worth in God´s eyes. He was a loyal friend who loved people and knew them by their names. Due to the poor health of his father, Richard began to lead Myers Mortuary, his family business, at the young age of 31. He was progressive and honest, and had an incredible vision for the future. Over the past 64 years his business partners have been his father, Elmer; his sons, Greg and Shaun; and his grandsons Matthew and Marcus. He loved his coworkers and fellow employees and often worked by their side to inspire and assist them. He was an outstanding funeral director who was recognized by President George H. W. Bush, the National Funeral Directors Association, and many state funeral director associations for his leadership, foresight, and service to his profession. He was the founder of the NFDA´s Pursuit of Excellence Program and began the nationally acclaimed Good Grief program for widowed people and residents of Weber, Davis, and Box Elder counties. He served as president of the National Funeral Directors Association, WSU Institutional Council (where he was one of the generating forces for Weber State to obtain university status), WSU Alumni Association, Ogden Chamber of Commerce, Utah Funeral years and then worked in the graduation office at Weber State University until she retired. She married Avan L. Holmes August 6, 1952 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They built a home in Liberty, Utah where they raised three children—Marlynn, Kim, and Mitch. She was an excellent cook and a skilled seamstress. She loved her flowers, puzzles, and cats. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three sisters. She is survived by her children Merlynn (Dale) Fowers, Hooper; Kim (Sue) Holmes, Plain City; and Mitch (Carol) Holmes, Liberty; as well as eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held family and friends Tuesday, March 14 at the Liberty Cemetery. He served twice as Chair of the Ogden Pioneer Days Committee and was the first president of the Eccles Art Center and one of the motiving founders to purchase the Eccles mansion as the center´s home. He received the Crystal Crest Award and an Honorary Doctorate of Weber State University. He was a founding member of the Weber State College Foundation, and served as a member of the McKay-Dee Hospital Board of Trustees, Weber County Fair Grounds, and Golden Spike Event Center and many other national, state, and community organizations. Richard was a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved to serve in any capacity, but is especially remembered by those he served as a Bishop, Counselor in a Stake Presidency, High Counselor (four times), teacher, youth advisor, coach, ward mission leader, Cub Scout Master, and dedicated home teacher. For over 17 years he served as the Northern Utah director of public relations for the church. He was ever stalwart and faithful. He always fulfilled every assignment and never missed doing his duty. Richard loved the outdoors and his horses, and always had a faithful friend and dog to accompany him on his trail rides. He called his cowboy friends “the posse.” As a grandpa, he especially loved taking his grandchildren horseback riding at the cabin to enjoy the beauties of nature and our cherished mountains. One of Richard´s greatest joys was being with his beloved family. He called his grandchildren his “muggles.” We will always cherish the skiing trips to Snow Basin, WSU Basketball and Football games, trail rides, Sunday dinners, picnics, cookouts, Harry Potter movies, Pioneer Day rodeos, parades, and many work projects at the cabin. He was always on the go. He is survived by his cherished wife, Gloria; children, Greg (Suzanne) Myers of Brigham City; Shaun (Christina) Myers serving as Mission President of the Ciudad Obregon, Mexico Mission; and Teresa Ann “Teri” Brown of Orange County, CA; nine grandchildren— Matthew, Marcus (Melanie), Scott, Kjerstin (Clark) Briton, Katarina (Jace) Nelson, Zack, Zachery, Daniel and Thomas; and eleven greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marilyn; and a granddaughter, Annika. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the North Ogden Utah Stake Center, 626 E. 2600 N., N. Ogden, Utah. Interment at Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 Monroe Blvd. where military honors were accorded.
