Show Volume XXIII Issue XII The Ogden Valley news Page 7 July 15, 2016 Announcements Obituaries John Richard Oliver April 28, 1967 ~ June 9, 2016 John Richard Oliver, 49, passed away peacefully in his home in Ogden John Oliver on June 9, 2016, surrounded by loved ones. He was born April 28, 1967 in Ogden, Utah to John Oliver and Frances Oliver. Having followed his dreams, he worked as both a licensed barber and as a professional musician in the years preceding his illness. Rich was always a kind and selfless man. He always strived to protect and care for those who were closest to him, putting the needs of others before his own. He reveled in the beauty of life and its infinite possibilities, and saw the magic in all things. A constant dreamer, his Douglas LaMar Scadden November 14, 1927 ~ June 23, 2016 Douglas LaMar Scadden passed away peacefully June 23, 2016 at South Ogden PostDouglas Scadden Acute Care facility after an extended illness. His loving wife of 66 years who had been his constant companion and caregiver during his illness, and other family members, were at his bedside during his passing. LaMar was born November 14, 1927 to Fred and Ethel Scadden. He has two brothers, Dean and Lawrence. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1946. He joined the Navy shortly afterwards and traveled to the Far East on numerous occasions, traversing the Pacific Ocean four times in one year and stopping in exotic ports-of-call, experiences that would shape his life and be the source of endless conversation throughout his life. He married Lou Jean Draper March 17, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. In 1954 he and Lou Jean started a family that eventually included three children: Lynn (Lisa), Dave (Cailin), and MarJean (Dan Silvester). The Scadden family grew to include six grandsons and seven great-grandchildren. LaMar had been employed by Swift and wanderlust was insatiable, and he saw no limits on how his adventures would unfold. Because of his wealth of unique and insightful experiences, to many, he was a sage, dispensing invaluable wisdom to any who were willing to seek it. He was an artist who pursued his passions relentlessly, often pushing his own emotional boundaries in order to fully experience every moment. He was a strong, diligent worker who always followed through on his goals, even when falling on hard times. Above all else, he was a husband and he was a father, and he loved his family more than anything. He is survived by his wife Melissa Oliver; his two sons Daniel Oliver and Michael Oliver; his parents, John Oliver and Frances Oliver; and his siblings Pam Gift, Carol Steiner, Lee Oliver, and Eldon Oliver. He has touched many lives, and he is forever loved. Company and Marquardt Corporation, and spent many years in the employ of the U.S. Government serving as an Administrative Contracting Officer in numerous locations and as assistant buildings manager for the General Services Administration. He retired in 1986. He was a member of the South Ogden Volunteer Fire Department. He served 21 years as Secretary and was Chief of the Department for two. He retired after 25 years of service to the community of South Ogden. LaMar and Lou Jean traveled extensively both before and after he retired. With family in tow, they traveled all over the western United States and Canada and upon retiring, he and Lou Jean traveled to the Caribbean, Hawaii numerous times, went on many cruises, and spent time in the American southwest during the winter for a number of years. LaMar was a member of the “Over the Hill” Good Sams Travel Club Chapter. He was also involved in volunteer activities at the Ogden Golden Hours Center where he taught a silversmithing class for a number of years. He was a member of the Golden Spike Gem and Mineral Club, was an avid rock hound, and had a lifelong fascination with geology in general. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lawrence; and granddaughter Nicole Scadden. He was a good and decent man, a wonderful and loving husband, and an amazingly selfless father to his three children. He will be greatly missed. Send condolences to the family at <www. lindquistmortuary.com> Lewis Dwan Harper January 29, 1968 ~ June 23, 2016 Lewis Dwan Harper, age 48, passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 23, 2016 in Idaho Falls, Idaho of cardiac arrest. Lew was born to Ezra Dr. Lew Harper and Delores Harper of West Corinne, Utah, the fifth of sixth children. He graduated from Box Elder High School in 1986, attended Dixie State College, Utah State, and received a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Life Chiropractic College West in 1997. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, earning his Eagle Scout award and serving a mission to Winnipeg, Canada, from 1987 to 1989. Lew was married to Gina Miskin April 2, 1993 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. For 16 years they lived in Liberty, Utah, and most recently in Ammon, Idaho. He was known to most people as Dr. Lew and loved helping people through his chiropractic practice. Dr. Lew loved everyone he Katie Hall Chavez Katie was born February 4, 1982 in Ogden, Utah to Jed and Michelle Francis Hall. She unexpectedly passed away at the age of 34 in the early morning hours of June 18, 2016. Katie was a graduate of Morgan High School Katie Chavez and the Certified Nursing Assistant program at the Davis Applied Technology Center. Her working career was spent providing love, care, and service to her elderly patients, who always held a special place in her heart. In September of 2007, Katie married Alvaro Chavez, who helped her raise her greatest accomplishments Jakob and Jaxon—her sons, who gave her life true meaning and purpose. Katie was a wonderful mom who was very proud of her boys. Katie enjoyed reading books, particularly the spicy romance variety! She loved sewing, canning, cooking (her chicken enchiladas were the best), and making all types of crafts. She especially enjoyed going out for sushi, visiting the ever met and was rarely without a smile. He was especially loved by children, including his 102 nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. His big heart and personality matched his 6’10” frame, along with his big smile and giving nature. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and story teller. With his rich singing voice he was able to express his inner emotions. He participated in many choirs and his sweet baritone voice was enjoyed by all who heard him. He is survived by his wife, Gina Miskin Harper; their treasured friends the Southwicks— Brandon, Janet, Kaleigh, Halle and Corbin; and the Nichols—Blake, Elka, Josie and Kolton. His siblings, Rodger (Lois) Harper, Cherri (Gary) DaHill, Denise (John) Czuba, John (Michelle) Harper; and Marlene Harper (sister-in-law). Lew was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Jerry. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the Ammon LDS Foothills Stake Center 3934 E. 49th S., Ammon, Idaho. Burial followed at the Ucon Cemetery. Katie was a practicing member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and openly encouraged her family to share in her faith. Katie is survived by her parents, Jed and Michelle Francis Hall of Morgan, Utah; her husband, Alvaro Chavez of Ogden, Utah; her sons, Jakob Hall and Jaxon Chavez of Ogden, Utah; her brother Morgan Hall of Clearfield, Utah; her sisters Frances (Kody) Lee of Morgan, Utah and Annette (Chris) Hudson of Manteca, California; very special in-laws Emeterio (Toni) Chavez of Ogden, Utah; aunts and uncles Sheri and Craig Green of Ogden, Larry and Shanna Francis of Eden, and Connie and Kelly Preece and Brad and Becky Francis of Morgan; and many more loving and caring nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. Katie was preceded in death by her grandparents David and Trevelene Hall of Vernal, Utah and Grant and Beverly Francis of Morgan, Utah; and Cousin Jaime Green, of Ogden, Utah. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 23 at the Morgan Utah LDS Stake Center. Katie was laid to rest in the South Morgan Cemetery. |
