I saw Dinesh D’Sousa’s “America.” This was the best movie I have seen in my lifetime. It is very entertaining and very educational. We liked it well enough to return for a second showing. I would highly recommend this movie; it has an A+ rating. I thought I was up to date on news from the political arena, but my eyes were opened much wider after watching this movie. When was the last time that you went to a movie and everyone stood and clapped their hands? “America,” imagine the world without her. Take the time to see this movie while it is still playing in your local theaters. Kent Hislop, Huntsville American Legion Post 129 Says Thank You The post would like to thank everyone who helped make our 4th of July weekend a great success. American Legion Post 129, Huntsville Instead of Trying to Change the Rules, Do Your Homework Oh dang! Flip! Spank me! Who knew? Mrs. Clark did teach me something about turning in a report. Miss Campbell, I think Mrs. Clark would only give you a C+ on your report. Sorry! However, I am impressed that you took time to go to Weber County and look up the county records. First time that I’ve see my tax dollars pay off a little. You also make a point for me that I have been trying to make for a long time. Thank you. There are a lot of Montgomery records there and I thought nobody ever read them. If you are a long-time Valley girl, then you are not a Valley patriot. You bet; my family has a lot of history here. But you get a low grade because you only did half of your homework. If you wonder why the dairy farmers and ranchers are no longer up here, it is because of “progress” and development. Folks like my grandparents made a living off the valley here. Do you think that the folks like my Grandpa Montgomery and my parents sold property and subdivided to get wealthy? Just ask the Holmes, the Baileys, Shupes, Clarks, Storeys, Wangsgards, Shaws, Allens, Fullers, and many other farmers and dairy farmers, which I could point out if you’d like. They had to do something to pay their outrageous property taxes because development made it not possible to do so because they were on small, fixed incomes. Most of these names are still here in the Valley because those old folks wanted to share what they had with their families before they died. However, I never saw any of those names on the Forbes List! Yes, my family subdivided. So what? Let’s look at my trapping and your conservation point. We live in a conservation easement; there are mountains all around us. And you have made a mistake when you think that I miss trapping; I still trap! I love it. I do it for a hobby, and I am good at it and I’m getting better every day. I do not report every dog that I catch because there are many dogs that get dumped off in the valley every day. I just stomp them in the mud. I feel that if you have a dog that you care for, you need to have it under your control every minute. When you get a skunk in your garage, call animal control. And when you get tired of their runaround, call me. Do some homework and get my number. For a small fee, I will come and extract it, and maybe you will appreciate trappers. And when the raccoons come and kill your cat for its food, you can call DWR for your problem and hear their runaround. Call me and, for a fee, I will bring my traps and take care of your dilemma. Instead of trying to change the rules, do some more homework and find out when the LETTERS TO THE EDITOR cont. on page 13 |
