During totheKeep Track of Work Hours The first annual Smokin’ Valley BBQ the day on Saturday. Teams from the intermountain west will compete over the two-day event in several different meat categories. They will be competing for prizes, trophies, and braggin’ rights in this fun, but competitive competition. The teams will be smoking brisket, ribs, chicken, and pulled pork and will be judged by certified judges. There will also be a backyard division that will be competing with chicken and ribs. Teams will start cooking some of the meat Friday night and will cook throughout the night. There will be activities throughout the event for the whole family, and several bands will be featured both Friday night and throughout ing Friday night and there will be live music throughout Saturday. Greg Farley, owner of Huntsville Barbecue Company, says he is excited about being able to host this event, “I love the area, and wanted to help promote BBQ competitions. I have met several of the teams and they are excited about this new venue. I hope that it can become an annual event here in Huntsville to spotlight local businesses and recreation in the valley. Huntsville Barbecue Company Winner of Best of State 2011 for Casual Dining SALT LAKE CITY- Huntsville Barbecue Company – Real Texas Barbecue, in beautiful Huntsville Town, was named the winner in the Casual Dining - Barbecue category for Utah’s Best of State Awards for 2011. Now in its ninth year, the Utah Best of State Awards Program acknowledges excellence in a vast array of industry sectors including business, entertainment, education, hospitality, retail, technology, and sports. More than 200 specific category winners have been acknowledged within ten main category divisions in this program that is dedicated to recognizing and promoting outstanding individuals, businesses, and organizations throughout Utah. This years judging was hosted by Salt Lake Community College’s Miller Business Resource Center and took place over a period of four full days. An independent judging process, featuring judges with category-specific credentials, has resulted in a confidential tabulation of results by the Gilbert & Stewart accounting firm, and culminated in a formal Awards Gala presentation held June 4. KUTV2’s Shauna Lake and Mark Koelbel emceed the event. At the Awards Gala, winners received minted bronze, gold-plated Best of State medals, and will also be eligible to win the Best of State Statue (BOSS), a coveted 24-karat gold-plated bronze and granite sculpture that features the Best of State motto, “Excelling and Surpassing All Else.” Congratulations Huntsville Barbecue Company! Neighbors are again being asked to continue their efforts to track hours and fill out provided forms, indicating the time spent to keep their home and property part of a fire-wise safe environment. These work hours are an important part of the effort that allows Nordic chipping services each year, along with help to build a firebreak trail. Volunteer-hour forms, along with Reverse 911 forms, can be found at the Eden Post Office bulletin board.
