Letters to the Editor Huntsville Displays Wisdom in Decision to Forgo Public Sewer System I won’t let this opportunity slip by to thank the Mayor and Town Council of Huntsville for their decision to delay integrating a public sewer system in the face of great pressure to utilize available state money. They displayed true leadership. When approached with the idea, they took the necessary steps to make informed decisions. They solicited expert opinions. They willingly and patiently took public comment. Then, they did what we hope every elected official will do; they analyzed the data and made a logical, rational decision in the best interest of the citizens. That decision directly affected my family. I’m grateful for it. Now what? As for our septic tank, we’ll continue to be diligent in its maintenance. We value the reservoir. We value the clean water of our personal well. We want to preserve that same privilege for our friends, neighbors, and the fortunate few who will someday live here. With gratitude, Laura Warburton, Huntsville American Legion Utah Boy’s State 2011 I recently had the opportunity to go to Weber State University for a week to represent Ogden Valley at this year’s 2011 American Legion Utah Boys State. I was able to participate in all of the offered activities, such as voting, making public speeches, learning about our governmental process; and sport activities such as basketball, volleyball, and rock climbing. I had countless memorable experiences and gained new friends—hopefully ones that I will keep forever. I also was able to listen to some really great speakers; for example, Governor Gary Mitchell Collins Herbert, Judge Paul Warner, Weber County Attorney Dee Smith, Dr. Thomas Kuehls, and KSL reporter Jennifer Stagg. Each speaker talked about something different, but it was all inspirational. While at Boys State, I received a graduation certificate, and held mock office for Chief of Police, became a county delegate and election judge, and received a 3rd place medal for athletics. I would like to thank the American Legion, Post 129 and its members, and especially Chuck Cuthbertson, Brad Brooks, Frank Warner, April Olsen, and Jim Poulter for sponsoring me. Also, thanks to all the veterans who took time out of their busy schedule to help us learn about respect, loyalty, bravery, responsibility, courage, and leadership. Mitchell Collins, Eden Joplin, Missouri Family Thanks Valley Supporters The following is from my cousin, the father of two young girls under the age of three who, with his wife, lost everything in Joplin. His comments and thanks are addressed to our friends in Ogden Valley who reached out and helped. As my one friend stated, “Read it slowly. It’s sweet. It’s what this life is really all about.” It’s 2:30 a.m. and I should be long asleep by now, but I can’t sleep. I have finally gotten on here (Facebook) at my family and friend’s request to see all the amazing support we have from you all. I have witnessed few, if any, efforts of such magnitude of love and support and pure true humanity. It’s intimidating to try to express my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation in words because anything would simply fall short. Many tears of joy have come to my eyes over all the support. Please accept my sincerest, purest thank you. You all are a large reason behind my ability to boldly declare that the F5 tornado that completely demolished my home and all our belongings is perhaps one of the greatest blessings of my life. I love you all. Thank you. Thank you for helping me to be able to care for my girls. Thank you. It may be easy to view the tornado-ravaged homes and feel the weight of devastation, but I strongly contend that in this devastation, the loving gentle hand of God, our Heavenly Father, is readily witnessed; it is even felt. Thank you all. Thank you. Stephanie Wilkins, Huntsville Monica Sue Herzog Fuit Needs Community’s Continued Support Monica, along with her husband Striker Jay Fuit and their family, would like to say “Thank You” to the community for all the generous support that they have received through all the trails and tribulation associated with Monica’s journey as she has battled cancer. The financial supThe Fuit family port from the community has helped to make it possible for her to receive the required ECP treatments once every two weeks, with each treatment costing $9,000. This support from the community has also helped with the escalating costs of medication. In November of 2007, Monica Fuit of Liberty, Utah was diagnosed with a form of cancer known as Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). In June of 2008 she underwent a bone marrow transplant. She has GVHD, a complication of the bone marrow transplant, in which functional immune cells in the transplanted marrow recognize the recipient as “foreign.” The medication she has been required to take to help control the GVHD has had a negative effect on her body; the GVHD and the drugs are now depleting her bones. In early June 2011, Monica found out that she has lost her night vision from cataracts. Without surgery, she may lose more of her vision. The cataracts are a side effect from the medicine she had to take to fight the GVHD. The surgery is going to cost around $5,000. Monica is a fighter and will continue to fight the cancer and resulting complications, but help is needed to fight the mounting costs to fight the cancer. Monica and her family have worked with Wells Fargo Bank to set up a fundraising account in honor of Monica to help with these accruing medical costs. To make a charitable contribution, make checks payable to Ogden Valley Wells Fargo, and print “Monica Fuit Fundraiser” in the bottom corner of the memo section of the check. Please mail to: OGDEN VALLEY WELLS FARGO PO BOX 164 EDEN UT 84310 Donors may also use a routing or wire transfer using the following account numbers: Routing transfer: 124002971 Wire transfer: 121000248 It’s never easy to ask for help and now is certainly no exception. Monica has touched the lives of many and we deeply appreciate the support she has received in the past and at the present time. We can use your time, energy, and creativity in any and every way. Please call or email if you have any questions, are interested in volunteering, have ideas for fundraising, or would like to request additional information.
