Invitation for Articles Letters to the Editor Let’s Make Sure We Don’t Lose Our Library: Stop by and check out a book today! There is a rumor circulating about that the Ogden Valley library may close, and staff at the library has verified the rumor. There is a very real possibility that the library may close if the community does not begin using it more; let’s do all we can to help prevent its closing by using it! Please come to the library and check out books and attend the great programs that are offered. You can even stop by and browse the shelves, or use the computers. Also, the library is a great place to hold meetings. Please get the word out; come to the library and put it to good use so it doesn’t close. Let’s not lose such a great community asset! Thank you, Mary Jane Markle, Huntsville Parents and Local Businesses Make Valley Teacher Appreciation a Huge Success We want to send out an extra special thanks to all the great parents and business that, thanks to them, helped make Teacher Appreciation Week at Valley Elementary a great success. Many parents volunteered to bring food for our daily “Happy Hour,” breakfasts, and luncheons. In addition, many wrote such beautiful letters of appreciation to teachers and fac- ulty who have made a positive impact on your children’s lives. We were overwhelmed with supportive businesses who donated gifts for a teacher raffle at the luncheon as well as daily gifts for the teachers! A special thanks to Zimbi Dental, Marker Construction, Wolf Creek Golf Course, Julie Robinson with Premier Jewelry Design, Diamond Peak, Dottie Becks, Kim Kelson with Scentsy, Chic Style, and Valley Market. Thanks to all the faculty and staff at Valley Elementary for their tireless efforts to make our children’s education truly exceptional! Jori Torman, Teacher Appreciation Week Coordinator Good Friends and Neighbors Are What Make Huntsville So Special A few weeks ago we were again blessed by the kindness and compassion of the residents of Huntsville Town. On Thursday afternoon, April 21, a microburst hit our yard and knocked down three mature pine trees, one of them taking down our electrical power cable and ripping all the connections, meter, etc. off of the side of our house. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Almost immediately, our neighbors were on the phone, calling us at work to alert us of the damages and to get the fire department to shut power off before a fire could start. Brad Layton responded to our phone call on Thursday night, and immediately came over to review the damage. He had a crew at the house the next day and by Friday evening, we had power restored. On Saturday morning, our home was among those that volunteer work crews helped to clean up the downed trees and haul off the debris to the landfill. By Saturday afternoon, the only reminder of the incident were the three stumps in our yard. We would like to thank all those who gave so graciously and cheerfully of their time, especially Brad “Electricman” Layton, Robert Seear, Weber County Fire Department, Artie Powell, Jeff Larson and his son, Kent Clawson, Rich “Chainsaw” Wilder, Richard Hanson, Bruce Ahlstrom, Dale Maxwell, Doug Mortensen, Scott and Anna Richardson, Kent and Sandy Hislop, Jim and Angel Truett, and Richard Sorenson. You, and others like you, are what make Huntsville so special. Ron and Judy Gault, Huntsville Third Annual Snowcrest Relay Powered by Ragnar a Great Success Once again, I was amazed and surprised by how much fun the Snowcrest Ragnar Relay was this past Saturday, May 7. The weather was perfect for a race, the community powered together to provide many fun activities, and spirited runners and the team coordinating the whole event was all smiles and structure as they pulled off a flawless event. I was so relieved and impressed to have Sherene Keith volunteer to coordinate this event. She offered at the end of last year’s race after tirelessly serving as PTSO President for two years. With close guidance from the event creator, Natalie Post, Sherene lead a team of wonderful volunteers to work with Tanner Bell from Ragnar to plan the event, recruit teams, solicit donations, teach student leaders how to request donations, design the tech shirts, coordinate food, plan and set up the race course, organize teams and bags, and so much more. Snowcrest students and staff owe her a debt of gratitude. The event raised $4,000. We were lucky to have our Treasurer, Kelly Walker, working in tandem, and as usual, coming through with great organization to check-in teams and keep the finances in order. We are so grateful to the teams who ran and contributed to this event. Many local businesses contributed in different ways to make this fun day a fundraiser as well.
