Karen Deem Her passing on 3 December 2007 is noted with sadness by those she leaves; however, we are glad that she no longer hurts. One can just imagine that she is now running and jumping, her physical ailments left behind, greeting and visiting with those who have gone on before. What a grand reunion she must be having. She grew up in Huntsville, Utah, attending Elementary and Junior High schools in Huntsville and graduating from Weber High School in 1959. Some of her youthful activities were in 4-H cooking and sewing classes, picking raspberries and strawberries for local growers, visiting the swimming holes on the first and second rivers, pulling a handful of pea vines from a passing load, helping herself to big brother’s fire crackers and selling them to the neighborhood kids, ice skating in the winter on Sheeve’s pond, and playing kick-the-can with neighborhood friends. On Christmas Day 1956, that fellow from Willard came calling, and thus started a long friendship that has lasted to this day. Karen Lou Jorgensen married Glen W. Deem on 8 June 1960 in Salt Lake City, Utah. To this union were born four children: TeRill Miguel, Linda, James Edward, and Jeneal. Karen was a member of the Bee Hive Rock and Gem Club and the Golden Spike Gem and Mineral Society. As a member of these clubs she attended classes and learned some of the lapidary skills of rock polishing and jewelry making, one of her fondest pieces was the head of a boxer dog she found in an agate stone. Karen worked at Valley Elementary School for more than 30 years. Her duties included being a playground supervisor, classroom aide, and office aide. She liked kids! A life-long member of the LDS Church, she held positions in the Relief Society, Young Women’s, and the Primary organizations. She also served three missions to the Genealogical and Family History Libraries in Ogden, Utah. She is survived by her husband; her four children; and three brothers, Ray H. (Jill) Jorgensen, Ivan M.
