It is comforting to know that we have a puppet in the legislature and the real estate lobbyists are pulling the strings. Where is his obligation to serve the people? At our last meeting, Mr. Donald Bell asked that our assessments be done over again in the proper order and with the correct assumptions. He reported that the property taxes on Cheryl Madson’s home only went up 14%, and that Dearden’s also went up only 14%; while the residents of Huntsville and others in Ogden Valley were raised as much as 192%. These are the people that we in Ogden Valley elected to take care of us and treat us fairly. We expect our elected officials to be responsive and proactive in helping the citizens of Ogden Valley receive property tax relief rather than hiding behind the law and ignoring the devastating effects of long time and fixed income residents being driven out of their homes. POLITICIANS . . . DO SOMETHING! Richard Evans, Eden CONSIDERATION cont. from page 2 could ride side by side. I found myself just shaking my head. What idiot follows a law that can cause himself and others serious injury? Why put yourself in danger? What ever happened to the joy of drafting—a cycling term for enjoying a slight reprieve of wind resistance while traveling behind one or more cyclists. My next statement, “What about consideration?” to which he ignored. I asked again. To which he huffed and told me to look into the law. I have great admiration for dedicated cyclists. I wish I had the time and drive to take up the art again. I go out of my way to share the roadways with these passionate athletes! However, when I come One of the most recurrent themes of this newspaper is that the fruition associated with living in this beautiful valley came on the heels of the nurturing sacrifices and moral fortitude of the founding fathers via a strong and noble government accompanied by divine guidance. To the horror and dismay of believers, this myth was readily and most rudely dispelled at a recent county commission meeting. Instead of being castigated and crucified, Commissioner Bischoff could be accredited for his exceptional forthrightness that is either beyond the grasp of his superiors or, more likely than not, best kept under wrap. No one likes being reminded that it is a dog-eat-dog world and whether seeking forgiveness or solace in a looming judgement day, the church, not the state, is where to look for your comforter. I feel they give a bad name to all who love the sport and practice it with grace and consideration. In the end, I’m sure many will appreciate this new law and will use it wisely. I think accomplished cyclists will find this law repulsive in many circumstances, especially on main highways in the Valley where we have little to no shoulder to navigate. I think they will adhere to common sense and courtesy. The arrogant cyclists who decide to use this law to take on cars and force them to give way to their agenda may end up as statistics creating a need to reconsider this law. American Indian Day The Ogden Valley news 801-745-4000 A revolutionary tea party in Ogden Valley? Valley residents noticed teach bags scattered throughout the Snowcrest Jr. High Parking lot after a particular raucous public meeting with Representative Gage Froerer, Weber County Commissioner Craig Dearden, and Weber County Assessor Cheryl Madson and staff from the assessor’s office. Citizens gathered to complain and protest skyrocketing tax valuations in Ogden Valley.
