Show Page 18 The Ogden Valley news Volume XIV Issue XV May 15, 2007 New Champions Crowned in 2007 Valley Tournament Ogden Valley’s annual basketball tournament is over for another year! The new champions are Wyatt Creager, Corey Nelson, Danny Miles, Marshall Shaw, Carlos Bombella, and Jordan Hendrix. Thank you to Kathy Allen, Diamond Peak Mountain Sports, and Snowcrest Jr. High for your contributions in time and resources. Proceeds from the tournament benefit Ogden Valley Youth Recreation And remember, it’s never too early to begin getting ready for next year’s tournament; see you then! Wolf Mountain Adds Lift-Served Mountain Biking At Wolf Mountain, the list of summer activities continues to grow. In addition to the second season of Music in the Mountains concert series, Wolf Mountain will be offering this summer season, for the first time ever, lift served mountain biking. They will also be opening the Wolf Lair’s Mountain Bike Terrain Park. “We are excited to be opening the Wolf Lair’s Mountain Bike Terrain Park, and pleased to be able to offer our riders earthen features, four cross, board walk jibs, and plenty of family fun recreational trails,” said Bill Cox, Wolf Mountain’s General Manager. “Our goal is to offer exciting high-adventure fun, and continue to further the sport of mountain biking by providing riders, from beginners to expert level, with riding features that will keep them coming back for more.” Wolf Mountain’s Bike Terrain Park is scheduled to open for the summer season on May 26, 2007. It will be open Saturdays and Sundays until June 28 when it will then be opened Thursdays thru Sundays until September 1. The bike park will then be open again on Saturdays and Sundays only through mid-October—weather permitting. Top Honors Awarded to Valley Students at Weber District Art Show By Shanna Francis Ogden Valley News The Ogden Valley 2007 Basketball Tournament Champs pictured above but not in order are: Wyatt Creager, Corey Nelson, Danny Miles, Marshall Shaw, Carlos Bombela, and Jordan Hendrix. The Eccles Community Art Center was the setting for the Weber District Art Show and Competition where junior and senior high students from the Weber School District came together to display their artistic talents. The coveted Best of Show blue ribbon, the District’s top ranking honor, was awarded, in both the Junior and Senior High Divisions, to Ogden Valley students. Snowcrest student Nicholas Weber High School Liston captured the student Mark Van prestigious honor Weerd of Huntsville with his painting was honored with the Best of Show blue “Docked.” H u n t s v i l l e ribbon for his brass “Don’t Weber High student sculpture Make Me Cry.” Mark Mark Van Weerd was also awarded a also took Best of $100 cash prize. In the same show, he was awarded an Honorable Mention for a metal and glass pendant. A multi-talented artist, Van Weerd expresses his creativity using a variety of mediums. In addition to sculpting in metal and clay, he builds furniture, is a talented and budding apparel designer, creates jewelry, and is, more recently, expanding into the creation of mask Gaye Hogge’s Tumbling Class performed at half time at the Annual Ogden Valley Basketball Tournament held at Snowcrest Jr. High on April 19. An honor student at Weber High, Van Weerd is currently trying to earn funds to attend the Art Institute of Portland where he will study apparel design. Students from Snowcrest who participated in the annual art show and competition were Sierra Schenck, Maranda Johnson, Jamie Foremaster, and Holly Beck. In Mark Van Weerd addition to his blue ribbon, Nicholas Liston won a $100 monetary prize for his Best of Show, as did Mark Van Weerd.
