Hawes Bob Eckstein Tommy Craig Hawes, 76, joined those who awaited him beyond this earthly home on Tuesday, March 24, 2007. On November 5, 1930 he was born to Thomas Edward Hawes and Lucille Marshall Hawes in Ogden, Utah. Thomas would later marry Trellis Hawes, Tommy’s stepmother. Tommy was raised in Plymouth, Utah. In 1947, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the navy. Later, he would enlist in the army. Tommy served in the military for 19 years and fought in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. During his enlistment, he met and married Lisa Hauck of Ludwig Hafen, Germany, in Frankfurt, Germany. Tommy served as a radio TT operator and became an expert with an M-14 rifle. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal for various deeds rendered in service to his country. After leaving the military, Tommy worked at the Sugar Factory in Garland, Utah; Thiokol; and as an electrician for Nucor. He also worked for a time as an overland truck driver. Tommy lived in many places throughout the world as a result of his service in the military. He lived in Germany, Washington, Panama, Plymouth, Tremonton, Elko, Brigham City, and Vernal. From these places he brought many stories that he enjoyed sharing with his 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Other than spending time with the family he cherished and loved, Tommy also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and an occasional round of golf. Tommy is survived by his wife Lisa Hawes, along with his brothers and sisters Ronnie (Kim) Hawes of Tremonton, Boyd (Lyla) Hawes of Brigham City, Lucille Gross of Tremonton, Uldene Hubbard of Kaysville, and Karen (David) Wallace of Sunset. Also, his children Debbie (Brent) Holmquist of Murray, Brenda (Chuck) Creamer of Liberty, Tammy (Vincent) Christensen of Vernal, and Craig (Lori) Hawes of Brigham City. He is preceded in death by his son Darrell, his parents, and a grandson named Kenny. Funeral services were held April 28, 2007 at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home in Tremonton. Interment at Plymouth Cemetery. On-line condolences may be expressed at <www.rogersandtaylor.com> Charles Robert “Bob” Eckstein, 76, died Sunday, April 22, 2007 at McKay-Dee Hospital. He was born August 8, 1930 in Troy, Missouri, a son of Louis and Mary Whitecamp Eckstein. Bob married Margaret “Peggy” Coop on October 16, 1953 in Ogden. They were later divorced. Bob owned Bob’s Landscaping Service and was a landscaper for many years. He also worked as a food manager for the State Industrial School. Surviving are one son and three daughters: Kent (Karen) Eckstein, Harrisville; Sheree (Eric) Evans, Eden; Michelle (Scott) Gordon, Bellingham, WA; Julie (D.J.) Bybee, Syracuse; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Kenneth Eckstein, Rocky Mount, MO; and Donald Eckstein, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters. The family expresses special thanks to Del and Sheri Cunningham and Lindsey Meenderink. Email condolences to the family at <www. lindquistmortuary.com> Rex William Wood Rex William Wood of South Ogden; Star Valley Ranch, WY; and Yuma, AZ died peacefully Sunday, April 22, 2007 in Ogden, Utah. He was born in Perry, Utah March 29, 1921, the son of William Amos and Ethel Davis Wood. He was a member of the LDS Church. He was a graduate of Box Elder High School and a veteran of World War II. He retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1974. Upon his retirement, he built a home in Nordic Valley and a cabin in Star Valley, Wyoming, which were enjoyed by all. He married Dorothy Wessler on August 8, 1962 in Ogden, Utah. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed baseball, water skiing, and, later, enjoyed years of golfing with four holes in one! He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a man of great integrity, patience, and was kind to all. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; and brother Doyle Wood (LuDean), Corinne, Utah. His children and their spouses are: Shanna Adams (deceased); Annette and Dean Morgan, Brigham City; Karen and Pat Stephenson, Layton; G. Leonard Maw (deceased); Ralene Maw, Ogden; and Curt and Connie Maw, Lino Lakes, MN. He has 18 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters Melissa Gilbert, Fayne Holman, and Glenda Compton; and Brother Gale Wood. Funeral services were held at Leavitt’s Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah on April 26, 2007. Burial at Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, Ogden, with Military Honors. On line condolences may be sent to the family at <www.leavittsmortuary.com> Michael Frank Simmons Michael Frank Simmons passed away in the presence of his loving family on April 26, 2007 at the McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden due to complications following open heart surgery. The medical staff performed brilliantly, but by the time they got to him, his heart was all but dysfunctional. He was born in Roosevelt, Utah to Frank A. and Barbara Ann Mezenen Simmons on July 5, 1959. He graduated from Layton High School in 1977. He worked at Auerbachs, Snow Basin, and several local restaurants. Michael had many friends. He always showed his love for others by giving of himself freely. He is survived by his parents; a brother Darryl Lee (Robyn) and their children Skyler, Merrillee, and Benjamin; a sister Carol Ann (Keith) Nance and their children Debra Ann and William (Billy). He is also survived by four aunts, three uncles, and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, a cousin Donna Minton, Aunt Emma and Uncle Calvin J. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at the Layton West Stake Chapel, 1715 W. 1600 N. with Bishop Joel Barrow conducting. Interment, Strawberry Cemetery, Duchesne County. E-mail condolences to the family at <www.lindquistmortuary.com> Darrell Harrison Hood Darrell Harrison Hood, 68, passed away Friday April 27, 2007 at McKay-Dee Hospital. He was born July 24, 1938 in Frontier, Wyoming to Peter W. and Anona May Eisenhart Hood. He was raised and educated in Wyoming by his mother and step-father Chester A. Quinton. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963. After his service he moved to Ogden, Utah. On December 16, 1963, Darrell married Kathleen LaMont in Ogden. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Darrell worked for Fife Rock Products for 17 years, Six States Distributors for 5 years, and retired in September 2006 from Jack B. Parson’s Company as a diesel mechanic after 21 years of employment. He enjoyed working and easily made many friends everywhere he went. Darrell was always willing to help anyone in need. Darrell is survived by his wife, Kathleen; children Dean LaMont Hood, Lamars, IA; Shawn Todd (Tawsha) Hood, Huntsville; Amy Kathleen (Clynt) Citte, Willard; Misty Colleen (Dustun) Johnson, Ogden; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Roger (Carolyn) Quinton, Pocatello, ID; and a sister, Dora (Lloyd) Reed, Evanston, WY.
