The new wire and switching equipment will serve both the Wolf Creek residential area and the Powder Mountain ski resort areas. Crews will continue work in the area to replace aging poles and other overhead line equipment in addition to the underground line work that has been done. Utah Power will be starting a “feeder hardening” initiative in the near future to identify all problem areas in Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho, inspect all equipment in these areas and begin the process to correct problems. Recorded Power Outages in Eden, Liberty and Huntsville March March 17: Eden outage resulted from damage caused when a backhoe hit an underground wire on Moose Hollow Drive while digging a wi ier. 21: Shifting soil along Elkhorn Drive caused damage to an underground power line. Line crews temporarily repaired the e, but a more permanent solution will be needed to ensure future reliability. March March 24: An emergency power outage was required to complete additional repairs where the hill is sliding along Elkhorn Drive. We have installed a protective device that will allow this area to be separated from the rest of the circuit in the event of any future problems. 26: Weather-related outage in Huntsville. March 30: Outage in Eden caused by equipment failure. Outage in Liberty for just over an hour. April 6: A storm dropped several inches of et, heavy snow that caused tree branches to break and fall into power lines, resulting in power outages in Eden. There were also problems with burned down conductors by Pineview Dam and Huntsville Town. Utah Power thoroughly investigated the outages and power surges reported in the area. No conclusive cause was identified for the power surges and related outage, but it is probable that they were caused by a transmission line and distribution line coming into contact with each other. Damage claims are being reviewed and processed on a case-by-case basis. Please note that the Utah Power employee identified in an OGDEN VALLEY News article as possibly having caused the power surges was actually working to restore a separate outage, and completed his work at least 30 minutes prior to the larger outage and associated power surges. Outage affected customers on April 8: Elkhorn Drive again. Utah Power is looking at options for long-term resolution of continuing problems caused by sliding dirt along this road, including the possibility of moving the power line to the other side of Elkhorn Drive along this section. Outage in Huntsville caused by April 12: other utility/contractor, necessitated the replacement of two power poles. April 22: Outage in Eden caused by eee ae failure May 11: n Eden caused by damage a a contractor hit an underground line when digging. UDOT Please note, these are the power outages Utah Power is aware of during this time period. There may have been others affecting fewer customers. to Restrict Access Motorists advised to use alternate routes Westbound traffic on 31st Street in Ogden has been restricted to one lane over I-15. Thi restriction will remain in place through 2006 to accommodate the reconstruction of the north side of the 31st Street overpass. Beginning June 10, 31st Street traffic will be realigned to the south side of the overpass. Two lanes will be maintained eastbound over I-15. Motorists should expect heavy delays in the vicinity of the 31st Street interchange, specially during peak traffic hours, and are advised to use alternate routes to and from I15. Riverdale Road, 24th Street, and 21st Street are all options. “Making significant lane restrictions on such a critical route is never an easy decision,” said Brent DeYoung, UDOT Project Director for the I-15 NOW expansion project. “However, these restrictions are necessary for the safety of the traveling public and our workers while completing these much needed improvements to the roadway.’ In addition to the long-term lane restric- tions on the 31st Street overpass, traffic will not be able to access westbound 31st Street from Parker Drive. However, io turns from Parker Drive to eastbound 31st Street will be allowed. Motorists would plan to use alternate routes This temporary reconfiguration of 31st Street comes as part of I-15 NOW, a major reconstruction project to improve this interchange and five others between the I-15/1-84 junction in Riverdale, and 2700 North in Farr West. The project will also increase capacity on I-15 by adding additional lanes in each direction, and is scheduled for completion in 008. UDOT encourages motorists to watch for heavy construction equipment, obey the posted speed limit, and exercise extrem caution when traveling through construction projects. I have been a lifelong resident of Ogden; attending Weber County Schools, and graduating from South Jr. High, Bonneville High, and Weber State College. My wife Peggy and I have five adult children and seven grandchildren. Even though I do not reside within the Valley, I share in your love for open spaces and family tradition. I admire many of your native citizens who have served this state with great distinction. To name two, Gunn McKay and Haynes Fuller-two great statesmen; it is no wonder to me that they are democrats. Two issues at the top of my list are promoting Public Education and Quality of Life. The Ogden Weber Education Association has endorsed my candidacy. I greatly value this endorsement. Increasing our quality of life has to start by taking care of our environment; to insure healthy drinking water and clean air for generations to come.
