Show vores ices WEE QGDEN VALLEY NEWS ree June 15, 2006 Letters to the Editor Historic Landmark Scheduled For Demolition—Lack of Funds Prohibit Rehabilitation It was one of the most difficult phone calls I have ever had to make—scheduling the demolition of my home in Liberty. On March 24. , I stood on the corner of 4100 North and Highway 162, along with many of you, mesmerized, as flames devoured the old red Liberty church. The weeks that have passed since that unforgettable day have been filled with a variety of emotions. Demonstrations of compassion and concern by friends and strangers alike, however, have made this experience more bearable. Insurance agencies have now concluded their extensive investigations, and the condition of the property has been assessed. While some of the historic structure may be = vageable, due to safety concerns and fina eat limitations, it has been determined iit the remaining portions of the building will soon be taken down. With Liberty Days fast approaching» it is my hope that the unsightly s will be remmoved before the Fourth of huly‘celebration, As part of the holiday festivities in the park, time capsules from the d red church, if recoverable, will be opened. In addition, a few souvenir bricks and fixtures from the building may be available. I wish I could individually acknowledge those who came to my aid during the first moments of the fire, and who helped remove, store, and salvage some of my belongings in the days that followed. Thank you to family, friends, and neighbors for your incredible support while I worked to breathe some life into that corner. My two year renovation project truly was a labor of love dedicated to you. It has been a pleasure to be part of this spectacular Ogden Valley community. os m = ON KEN TURNER REAL Qa o s . that building has been a landmark and part of everyone s memories from both sides of the mountain forever.
