A man stood in the middle ofa 10 x 20 snow patch, about 6 inches thick (that must have been 10 feet deep in January) and took the hands of two little boys, dressed in t-shirts, shorts, — sandals who, all ofa sudden, did not kno ground again after‘their snowball fight. “Dig your heels in like this . . . “ He said, and showed them how one walks in snow without slipping and falling down. I felt blessed in having front row seating, watching families creating wonderful memories, memories that they all would look back on one day. 2 2 2 ie 2 ie ak 2 2 2g 2 ok 2 OK ok oi ok It was Johan’s idea to spend the 4th of July at Snowbasin. We had lunch on the deck at Snowbasin and, afterwards, took the Gondola up the mountain. There was a carefree vacation atmosphere on the deck when we arrived. The air was refreshing and much cooler than down in the Valley. The cook explained the menu. It did not only The short Cire irque Loop trail ae fiom the Needles Lodge crosses a narrow basin snow. The popular area is a favorite spot for a summer snowball figh have hamburgers and hotae but wonderful international choices! Moorish Chicken and Brick pressed sandwiches were on the menu. We ordered both and shared, and I do not know which was my favorite—both were wonderful. It turned out to be not only a wonderful lunch but a great visit with fellow valley and mountain residents. The manager of Snowbasin recommended the gondola ride up the mountain and the trails at the oe. He also told us about all that is happening at Snowbasin—the mountain trails for hikers and bikers that extend all across the mountain. And he reminded us that if we hiked up the mountain or biked up 2), we could ride down the mountain in the gondolas for free. I would think so. It en be either that or a stretcher if it werem Then Kevin, ne, is our neighbor and also works at Snowbasin, cam introduced us to our new neighbors who we’ ve wanted to meet ever since they moved in. Talking to them we realized that we had just gained more wonderful Eden neighbors. Other friends also decided to spend this great day on the mountain: Pam Mitchell and friends sat enjoying lunch after spending the morning hiking the mountains. Later, Mary, who is the public relations person and history buff at Snowbasin, came over and we visited for a while. She was enthralled as I was with the beautiful day. “I sometimes cannot believe I work here!” She said. “And I just love the multi cultural feeling with people from all over the world that we have visiting at Snowbasin.” It was true. As we stood there talking, I heard couples conversing in French, German, Dutch, and in Japanese. I too love the international feeling at Snowbasin. The atmosphere was what would imagine it to be in Alpine resorts in European countries. Only here it was, right Skiing in July, this die-hard enjoys the last of the season's snow near the Needles Lodge at Snowbasin. The ski down makes the hike up from the trail well worth the effort. Where else can you ski, bike, and hike all in one day in the middle of summer while enjoying panor - 7 stas?
