Jr. High Wrestling Team South Summit's John NefT pins his opponent on the way to a State Wrestling Championship. Student Writer: Amanda Baird After months of surviving strenuous practices, and losing unthinkable amounts of weight, the South Summit Wrestlers awaited their final victories. State Wrestling was held at Utah Valley State College on the 16th through Thursday, 18th. the Saturday, The South Summit team competed with other wrestlers in the 2A division to secure their standing in State. This was the final tournament for the senior wrestlers and they were anxious to prove themselves. The South Summit wrestlers who qualified to go to State were Cole Bisel. John Neff. Casey King, Alex Wilford, Robbie Atkinson. Dan Ruf. Jake NefT. Ryan McNeil. Michael DeGering. Tyree Lazcnhy, Michael Littledike. Brody Lewis. AJ Dixon and Shawn Clegg. They all had to endure a series of matches to make it to the championship round. Those wrestlers who moved on to the medal rounds were now competing for their team, and for themselves. Mike DeDering (145) finished his plight for a medal sixth place; followed by Mike Littledike who also placed sixth in the 160 weight class. Competing for fifth place. Dan Ruf came up with a win in the' I.IS weight division. Shawn Clegg finished out his wrestling career with a fourth place medal in the Heavy Weight division. to all these Congratulations wrestlers for their contribution to their team and for having the cuurage to succeed. The State tournament came to a close with the championship round. The South Summit wrestlers who competed in this round were presented in a spectacular fireworks show. These accomplished wrestlers were John Neff (119). Alex Wilford (125). and Brody Lewis (171). Each match was filled with anticipation and a desire to win the gold. Every wrestler reached for the seemingly unattainable goal of bring a State Champion. This goal was present in every wrestler's mind as they awaited their match. Every match was fought well and the South Summit community can be proud of their efforts. Alex Wilford and Brody Lewis both received a silver medal they can wear around their neck with honor. John Neff competed for first place against Colby Foust of North Summit. John conquered his opponent with a score of 2 to I. South Summit Freestyle and f Ladycafs Kill The Braves Student Writer: Ashley Simpson The 1 jdycats were pumped up to play their opponents from the North. The seniors were especially excited, as this was their last game at home. They want to leave the home crowd w ith one last victory. The freshman were excited to beat the Braves by more then they did the last time. Stephanie Dees lead the Lady cats with her outstanding offense. Chasidee Anderson had a great defense game, which gave the lead to end the Ladycals a nine-poiof Great score with a game nt 39-3- game Ladycatv. The junior Varsity was excited to play the Braves as well. The Cats came out w ith a lot of intensity that staned them off with a great lead. Ben Brandi Ixwis had an outstanding game with 12 rebounds and 15 points. Sara Parker also had a great game with an incredible amount of assists. The two opposing teams tuned off the night w nh victory in mind. The game had an exciting start. Maying within Just a few points the entire first quarter. The Cals led the Braves at Ihe end of the quarter North Summit's Braves continued to play well (hough the second quarter and were able to pull ahead of Ihe game, leaving the score 26-3at the half. The Braves continued to lead, ending ihe third quarter with ihe score 45-3Realizing that they needed to change some aspect of their game, the Cats were able to pull the score within a few points once again. The final minutes of the game were intense and vers close, hut the Cats were unable to conquer Ihe Braves this time. The final score was 52-5The South Summit Wildcats knew it would be a difficult game when it began av the Brases were currently undefeated in region play.
