Area Contests FFA Reporter: Kimberly Robinson The North Summit FFA Chapter had the opportunity to host the Area IV Contests. Other chapters in attendance were: Wasatch, Lone Peak, American Fork, Lehi, Pleasant Grove and South Suminit. There were four different contests available for members to compete in. They were: Public Speaking, Prepared Extemporaneous Public Speaking, Creed Speaking, and Parliamentary Region Wrestling Kelsey Robinson wrestles his way to Most Outstanding Wrestler at Region 12 competition. Student Writers: Chablee Vernon and Paula Chappell Region 12 wrestling was held at North Summit on Saturday, Feb. 10. The wrestlers started off with an early morning weigh in, followed by d breakfast. Region 12 a consists of North Summit, South Summit, Juab. Grantsville, and Juan Diego. The wrestlers were fired up and ready to go by 9 a.m. Wrestling matches were held continuously throughout the day. As the day neared to 1 p.m., third well-cooke- Procedure. The North Summit FFA Chapter had members competing in three of the four contests. Participants were: Tiffany Clegg in Prepared, Cherie in Ovard Virginia Extemp, Robinson, and Sydnee Housley in Creed. These members did well at representing North Summit. Cherie Ovard came out with second place, and Tiffany Clegg placed first and will be representing North Summit and Area IV at State Convention in March. Good luck. and fourth places were filled. Nick Bagnell, Joe Ovard, and Derek Siddoway earned third place in their weights. The excitement really picked up when the championship rounds began at 6 p.m. North Summit had eight challenging for the first or second place positions. Danny Robinson. James Shupc. Dustin DeSanlos, David Bcenfield. and Colby Foust each placed second in their weights with Colt Hamilton. and Devin Robinson, Kelsey Siddoway placing first in region. Kelsey also received the Most Outstanding Wrestler Award in the upper weights. Overall points totals were Juab with 238, South Summit with 201.5, with Summit North 1.5, Grantsville with 81, and Juan Diego with 27.5. Wrestlers who qualified for the State tournament are Colt Hamilton, Kelsey Robinson, Devin Siddoway, Danny Robinson, James Shupe, Dustin Derrick, DeSantos, Nick Joe Ovard, Bagnell, Siddoway, David Bcenfield, and Colby Foust. The students were judged in two age groups. Primary being kindergarten through second grade, and Intermediate being third through fifth grade. The winners for this year are as follows . THEATRE: Grand prize winners were Greg Mixidy (primary) and Kristy Moody (intermediate). MUSIC COMPOSITION: Grand prize winners were Greg Moody (primary) and Kristy Moody (intermediate). Runner up was Hayley Richins. FILMVIDEO: Grand prize winners were Nathan Richins (primary) and Dylan Mills (intermediate). Runner up was Caden Richins. DANCE: Grand prize winner was Jaycle Homer (intermediate) and., runner up was Kristy Moody. VISUAL ARTS: Grand prize winner for primary was Susie Stephens. Runners up were Krystal Richins. Erica Richins, Ashiyn Judd, Cassidy Jaxon Vernon, and Stephens. Landon Richins. Grand prize winner for intermediate was Jaci Judd. Runners up were Hayden Lund. Ali Smith, Shalese Peterson, Colten Tholen, Katelynn Judd, and Seth Sargent. PHOTOGRAPHY: Grand prize winner for primary was Erica Richins. Runners up were Susie Stephens. Runners up were James Sergeant. Praetor, up and. Due to generous donations from the North Summit Elementary PTA. t, and Fox Color Park City Lah, many nonwinner prizes were also given away to the participants through a random drawing. Also, each participant was awarded a Nix of crayons and a ccrtificaic. Thanks to all the students who participated and made this a fun and worthwhile Wal-Mar- experience. Wasps Sting The Braves Student Writers: Chablee Vernon and Crystal Robinson The Braves were fired up and ready to rumble against the Juab Wasps on Jan. 30. The wrestlers all fought hard and showed excellent skills. The JV had some hard wrestlers although Kelby McQueen and Chris Trussell were able to squash the Wasps. The Varsity was ready to win and take the Wasps over. Colby Foust, Dustin DeSantos, Devin Siddoway, Kelsey Robison and Colt Hamilton all defeated their Wasp opponents, yet the overall team was conquered. Colt Hamilton stated, Juab was a tough team; we have a lot of work to do before State'. State Wrestling will be at UVSC this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
