Show The Summit County Bee November 19 1999 Page B3 Cougar Hunting Permits Available Beginning Nov. 29 Hunters who didn't apply for a 1999 - 2(XX) limited entry cougar permit, or those who did but didn't draw out, may still hunt cougars during Utah's upcoming season hy purchasing a permit to hunt one of the state's 24 cougar harvest objective management units and subunits. Permits to hunt cougars on harvest objective units will be available, beginning Nov. 29, from Division of Wildlife Resources offices in Subscribe 9piul Ogden, Salt laike City, Spring vi lie, Vernal, Price and Cedar City. Cost for the permits is $53 for residents and $253 for nonresidents. If they don't already have one, both residents and nonresidents also must purchase a $6 Wildlife Habitat Authorization. "There is no limit to the number of permits that may be sold for each unit and hunters may purchase them "The hunt on each harvest objective unit may close before the offi cial ending of the season, however, if the number of cougars to be taken on the unit is met." l:or example, if the objective is to take 10 cougars on a unit, the hunt cm the unit closes when 10 cougars are taken, even if the end of the season hasn't been reached. Hunters who have a permit to hunt a harvest objective unit that closes early may still hunt cougars by exchanging their permit for a harvest objective unit that's still open to hunting. A $5 handling fee is charged for each exchange and the permit is not valid until the day after the exchange is made. All exchanges must be made at a Division office. The 1999-20Icougar season on most of Utah's harvest objective units begins Dec. IS. The season w ill end on most of the units when the number of cougars to be taken has been met, or on June 4. 2(XX). The exceptions are the San Rafael and Kaiparowitz units, where the season begins Dec.
